custom molded dash
Ok, i did a search on this as well, nothing.
I was wondering if anyone has done a custom dash in a 3rd gen, like.. molded from fiberglas, using mdf as a skeleton.. i've seen it done with the alpine... i think it was a focus.. or something.. very very nice stuff. I was just wondering if anyone has tried something like this in our cars?
I'm wanting to make a carbon fibre/brushed aluminum/soft leather or plastic type dash.
just wondering if anyone has done it or atleast tried it.
Thanks.
(now it's time to go to work, booo).

I believe KandiedZ28 is doing this right now. It might even be done. I thin khe is doing his center console though, not the whole dash. Could be wrong though. I would contact him and see how it is going. good luck

cool.. ya.. imma prolly start working on it as soon as i do the engine swap, and get the console & all in.. and of course, after spring break.. Then i can put the money into new guages & all.. and fibreglas or carbon fibre, and get the stuff, do it & shabang it would be cool.
IT's just a hell of alot of work, that i don't look forward to, cept.. i do, cuz it'll be custom.
Plz keep me updated on how kandiedz28's project goes.

Yeah, I'm starting work on mine next month. I'd do it now, but I'm installing the Spohn 13" Brake Kit. Here's a link to the fabric: http://www.uscomposites.com/Images/cf/ck94992.jpg If anyone has any tips on this, email me at mark.roth@navy.mil.

aaahhh, good man, red carbon fibre. :-) not my first choice, but beautiful none the less.
What stuff are you going to be using to harden it? I know it's not the same as fibre glas.. atleast, i have read that it wasn't...

I know that company that makes the $7,000 exotic body kit for our cars has an optional interior package that can be purchased separately. It costs too much for my taste, plus I would like 4th gen guages better. Something about the Tach and Speedo right next to each other is appealing. Without further adu, here is the kit:

ya, i've seen the stuff too, heck, i'd prolly do the outside kit if i had the money & they had a ram air hood for it, but nooo...
the inside is cool on it.. but.. not my tastes. i'm more of a contemporary type guy...

dashes have been done since our cars were new however ironic enough no one has been a member here at thirdgen.org or really done anything on the internet to document them.
i'm currently working on the rear half of the car as well as a custom center console, doors and kick pannels. unfortunately time has become an issue so it's going a bit slower then expected. i was hoping for the end of this month but it looks like i'll be pushed back a few months.
i have my kickpannels done as well as some of my entertainment setup and i did one trial on the center console but i want to redo it. i do not plan on changing the dash as of now though because i'm pretty happy with how it flows into everything else. the car in itself is quite square so having to many rounded edges posses a visual problem.

you sound like me, i'm doing rear stuff first.. IE sound system in the back. I might be getting two kicker L7 12's... not sure yet.. depends on when the new 04 models come out & how much they are, heh. I have 4 competition 10's no.. but not L7's. Dont' have the 4th actually, but, the setup would be too complex & i don't wanna mess with it, so i wanna get two 12's, and just lay them in there a bit angled, and a bit down in the hole, & then the amp in the hole, angled, under plexiglas & lights inside. Also might do lights near subs... but i have to do that b4 spring break.
After i finish this part.. even if i don't have my lt1 engine in the car yet.. i'll work on the dash, :-).
i just... don't look forward to it, lol.

i drive my car too much so i waited to do the interior last....
i don't want to use the well for anything as it's too common. that an my air tank and compressor are in there anyhow. i don't use the rear seats so they are gone and i'm doing something with that area and the top deck which molds into the center console sort of how a c5 would in essence but completely different.
the sail pannels and doors conform from the top down to the front where the custom fiberglass kickpannels reside. very time consuming....
good luck.
