Drdave,
I just did this about two or three weeks ago. I took out the green plastic circles and just went to my local art supply store and got some plastic that was see through but colored and cut the circles out and put back together. When the whole panel went back together you cannot notice until you put your blinkers on. It's a nice small detail.

exactly. I took red see through plastic, and replaced the green ones. The red looks freaking awesome at night. I think blue will look good as well.

Ya I changed mine to red along time ago, and it looks so much better then that green.

Real easy project to do, just replace the green plastic, with the color of your choice.

You don't even need a colored plastic, just a colored bulb. I did this with my 89 and am running blue LED's in the back, 194's. The factory gauge cover, the clear plastic that covers all the gauges, is "frosted" right there where the turn signal bulbs are. You won't see just the bulb, it will appear just as it always had, and the LED's give off much brighter light. I was thinking about red myself, I might try that the next time I have the dash apart.
