Doors make sound but no locking
All right, first time poster and just got my 91 Z28 a few days ago, ok here goes, at first the door lock buttons didn't work, so i spent some time under the dash fixed a broken wire and now they make a locking sound but not actually locking, the mechanism is hooked up and moving, just not locking the door. The accuator has some play in it if i grab the connecting rod and move it up and down, figured maybe it shouldn't??? Any advice, the passenger door moves more then the drivers door but neither fully lock or unlock by the button.

The linkages probably just need a good cleaning and lube. Try spraying them with wd-40, and then work them all for a minute. Then spray it all with white lithium grease and do the same thing. If you don't follow up with the lithium grease, all your lube will be gone within a couple days.

I had the same problem on my 89 Iroc-z, took door panel off and found the long linkage rod at the door handle was bent slightly. replaced the rod and lubed whole assembly. No more problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

After thanksgiving i'll be back in florida to check it out, uncle sam has me out of state for a few days to get some additional training. But i had the door panel off and nothing looked bent or anything, i'll clean everything up, wd-40 it then use some lithium grease to lube her and see what happens. Neither of them fully lock or unlock when i hit the button even repeated use of button dosn't seem to get them to either lock or unlock, i can still manually do everything though.

Hello mc84ss,
In my post about the rod being slightly bent, I forgot to mention that it was slightly bent where it goes through a little black piece of plastic that holds it to the door frame. Pull the rod out of that plastic and run your fingers over it to check it for any bent areas. Also try locking the door with the rod removed from the plastic retainer. Mine was hanging up there because of being slightly bent.
