if i got one, i was just going to put in the rear trunk storage compartment, it just takes a few more seconds to get it and its better than not having one i think.

i used to have one mounted where a few others posted, man I htought I was original, had'nt seen one there before..oh well. I took it out cause got tired of hearing "you have a fire exstinguisher in your car" every time a girl got in it. Mine was a little large..and it was free which is why I put it in. After looking at this post tho i'm seriously considering re'installing it.

I was just making the point that if the manufactures know that people need these....that they can even save lives, even though people could die in a car fire, they will put an expensive price on their product....they really don't give a crap about anyone's life. Ok....here is an example. There are soooo many commercials about cigarette smokers...and how they want them to quit....how can people quit when the price of those patches are so expensive? The fact is...is if manufactures cared, then the price of their product would drop and lives would be saved...that's all I'm trying to say. I'm not a cheap skate at all....I just bought a set of wheels that almost cost me 2 grand....anyhow..I bought my extinguisher today...and I'll hopefully mount it next spring.

Pressurized water extinguishers are usually chrome or silver..they're for Class A fires only. and thats not what you want for your car.

CO2 and Dry Chem extinguishers are usually red... these are the kind you want in your car. oh, and halon ones are red too..

Painting a extinguisher Blue and putting a sticker labeling it as a oxidizer is pure ignorance.

white is ok, theres nothing wrong with that....... just be sure its approved for A,B, and C class fires..

What about painting it Blue with no sticker, is that OK? Ah....i'm just kidding, i know what your talking about! lol I must say though, i've seen dumber things done to "show cars". That's the beauty of being an American, you can be as retarded as you want, or can be in some cases, and no one can do anything about it! Just say things, that's it.

i know. its a "show car" piece...... take that how you want.

its also smaller then i would like to carry, but its much better then having nothing.

on a side note, in the local "import" shop you can get them in chrome, chrome tinted blue, chrome tinted red, chrome tinted gold, and there was one other color one that annoyed me, but i dont recall what it was.

I wouldn't consider even starting my car if it didn't have a good fire extinguisher in it. I keep a 2.2 lb. Halon 1301/1211 mix FE solidly mounted to the floor in front of the driver's seat for immediate access. It's relatively small, extremely effective, and won't leave any residue if I have to use it. I have way too much time/money invested in my car to allow it to be consumed by a fire. I've seen some very nice cars totally lost by fires over the years, and most of them could have easily been saved if a small FE was readily available. Another thought that comes to mind is being pinned inside my vehicle after a crash and a fire breaking out (a very realistic situation). At that point, I wouldn't be very concerned about my car, but for my own well being (good reasons to keep that fire extinguisher solidly mounted and within easy reach of the driver's seat).

Halon extinguishers are the best you can get. They are still available, and if you do some searching around, you might find that they really don't cost that much more than the dry chemical ones. I got two 2.2 lb. units for a little over $100 shipped a few years ago.

yea... most consumer places will be selling kiddy..... its one of the major brands...

theres nothign wrong with them, athough i do have a nice big First Alert in mine now... mostly because i can get them free and refilled free at work (i write software for Btech, part of Brooks Fire Equpment corp )

the only downsides to the kiddy ones :
not refillable.
the plastic pin cannot be replaced once pulled out.

other then that, theres nothing wrong with them... better then nothing.

My friend saved his Chevelle with the one with the plastic pin, it was the powdered stuff but he took it to the body shop he works at and immediatley washed it all off with no problems to the paint.

Car: Camaro of course
As far as the color goes, if your building a building then yes I would mind the color. But if your putting one in your car I doubt it will matter the color, if there is a fire 99.9% of the people in the world will just grab a extinguisher and shoot (no matter the color). Also if its halon (which it should be) it will put out A B C fires which is all you should need to worry about...that is unless you have old VW beetle lol

heres one i picked up at wal-mart for $12. i took the instruction sticker off, cleaned it up real good and slapped that crane cams sticker that came with my rocker arms...figured it wouldn't be considered R I C E cause my whole valve train is from crane; pushrods, rocker arms, cam, and timing chain....

my brothers had his in his 86 sport coupe for i think the past 3 yrs and its his daily driver. it will be safe. but if its the dry chemical one, like id say every 3-4 months take it off the bracket and turn it upside down and smack the bottem so the powder just doesnt sit in one place for ever. just incase u have to use it

I have the APC little chrome extinguisher. I mounted it on the drivetrain tunnel in between the back seat buckets. It looks nice there.

on top of the hump? yea thats where i had mine on my old camaro...

this once has it on the floor behind the drivers seat halfway on the hump....

over enough that it still leaves some room for the rear passengers feet (heh room in the rear.. yea right) and its not "steal me" visible, but you cant miss it if you look in the car

Guys, not sure how old this post is or what not but.....

I have had a FE in my bird for about a year now, used it twice, neither on my car but the people I helped.

Function outways looks in this case, but then again I have a completly stock interior

anywho, its a good idea to keep a FE mounted, my only sugestion is to make sure its in there tight and secure, when u flying thru the air running from the cops, a 10pound peice of solid metal is going to hurt

good day'

Well I think the best thing that could happen to people who put others at risk by flying thru the air running from the cops, would be that a fire extingusher hit them so as to extingush them.

Best place to put it, on the drive shaft hump right after the center console.

why run? at least up here in michigan, theres no sense in running, first off they got ur plate, so there going to be waiting for you at your house, second they got a radio which no one is ever going to out run.

bad idea anyway you put it.

Anyone have an idea of how big of an extinguisher is needed? I mean, that'd suck, to have the car catch on fire, and the extinguisher run out of foam/chemical/haylon/etc right in the middle of putting the fire out!

But this does remind me to put one in my car... meant to do that when I first got the car (1994)! Oops.

We do have a huge A/B/C fire extinguisher in the garage... you guys have one in your garages at least, right?
