those with "race" seats?
how did you go about mounting them to the car?
also, any suggestions on the different brands. i've been looking at quite a few and some seem to be heavier then my stock seats? i'd like to get something that gives better support then my z28 seats but doesn't make it unbearable to drive.....suggestions?

Since your car isn't a race car, do yourself a huge favor and get something with a reclining backrest. Non-adjustable seats suck. If you get any good quality seat like a Recaro, Sparco, Corbeau, Flo Fit, etc... you can get bolt-in brackets. If you get a r*cer brand like Tenzo, DAD, or whathave you, you're going to need to modify the generic brackets they come with. It's not terribly difficult if you're good with a welder, but it is time consuming.

As you know I have Cobra seats and ive used the original tracks to mount them on.They are simple to narrow and ive even retained the electric adjusters

definately agree which is why i want "race" type seats i suppose unlike actual fixed racing seats.
i want something that is somewhat comfortable, yet will hold me in place. i don't need them to be electric but adjustable is a must. being as tall as i am i have to be able to recline.
so it's pretty much understood that with the "nicer" or more expensive brand seats they will have tracks to work with our cars?

Although I haven't sat in it for an extended amount of time, I've sat in the sparco pro 2000 I believe it was. It was a bit awkward getting into the seat, but ~I~ thought it was very very comfortable, and it doesn't recline. It was hard climbing over the cage and into the seat, it was a WRX...

yes most seats of that nature are going to be a little more difficult to climb into but that doesn't bother me since it isn't a daily driver. i agree though that with a daily driver it can be very awkward.

I put a set in my son's car and it was easy using the stock brackets. I put a 1/8" X 1-1/4" piece steel between the new seats and the old brackets, drill three holes in the steel to adapt the new seats to the old bracket.
The only real issue is the stock brackets make the new seats sit too high in the car for my taste. My son does not mind and he is 6'.

Corbeau seats are inexpensive, but the cloth quality is cheesy and they fade really quickly from sunlight.
If you are going to splurge, get the best seats you can afford.

For mounting brackets I went with Corbeau since they make brackets specifically for our cars and I got them for $64 each. All that is required is simply drilling new holes in the brackets and sliders to accomodate the Sparco seats. I did also need to use some 3/8" nylon spacers so that the slider mechanism cleared the bottom of the seat.
Since I am 6' 2" I also decided to modify the height of the brackets. Out of the box the seat/bracket combo sat a tad higher than the factory seat and I was really uncomforatble with that. I took the brackets to a race fabrication shop and had them remove the mounting tabs, shorten them by 1", then reweld them to the bases. Problem solved and the seat sits at a comfortable height.
As soon as I have the extra $$$ to spend I'll get the passenger side seat.

I say if you dont need the 5 point harness, a set of 4th gen seats will work out really good. They'll work with the stock seat belts, very streetable, very comfortable, guarantee fit, and even possible to hook up electronic adjustments. But if you do need the 5 point harness, you have alot of choices as far as aftermarket seats. Definately go with an adjustable seat with a reclining back. Technically any seat will fit our car since you can make brackets for anything, but if you want to buy stuff off the shelf, I say go with Corbeau. Corbeau does make (some very expensive) seat brackets for 3rd gen's, but from what I've heard you might run into headroom issues depending on your height. Not sure if thats going to be an issue for you, so be sure to check up on it (I'm 6'5" so its an issue for me). Lots of models to choose from, choose the one you like. You can also run other seats like Sparco's, but you might need to go custom on the mountaing brackets.

I contacted Corbeau directly via their web site and a sales rep asked me to call so he could question me about what seats I needed the brackets for. On the phone I was straight up and told the rep that I wanted to use them for some Sparco seats.
Due to my honesty the rep said he'd sell me the brackets I wanted at the $64 price. Many people call them and try to lie, so Corbeau usually will not sell their brackets by themselves. Corbeau even tossed in some extra hardware to try to make the brackets fit my Sparco seats easier.
There are also universal style sliders available all over eBay that can be had for as little as $20 each. I've seen some of these sliders up close and they are identical to the Corbeau sliders except that mounting tabs are welded directly to the sliders. No mounting base is used. You then have to fab up some additional hardware to mount the sliders to the floor. The universal sliders are also pre-drilled to fit a variety of seats - Corbeau, Sparco, Tenzo, DAD...and so on.

I was just saying they are expensive because I think I could make some brackets myself (re-using the stock stuff) for the cost of a number 3 at Mcdonalds. Amazing what some pieces of metal welded together costs.

I second that for the Torinos! "Race" looks, and still adjustable. Heavy on the wallet though. Pretty nice seats, and comfortable too. Sat in one once when my freind had them in his car.

well my 4thgen seats aren't as nice as i'd like them to be comfort wise and i don't like the look of ta seats in the camaro.
i'm probably going to go with some sparco seats but i'm toying with the idea of how to mount them. if i can use a 3rdgen track and adapt it i would like that. either way i want it to be safe. last thing i want is the seat ripping out.

anyone know what brand they really are? i know summit doesnt make their own stuff, they just rebadge others....
and i think it said it was reclining and tipped forwared for access to the rear...
