Question about 4th gen seat belts...
Will ALL front 4th gen seat belts fit 3rd gen cars? In other words, nothing changed in 98 for the seat belt mounting when they changed everything else on those cars right? Thanks in advance.

I beleive all 4th gen belts are the same. Although 4th gen belts in a thirdgen arent direct bolt ins they are pretty close.

They are all the same. The retractor is a direct bolt on. However, the lower part of the belt doesnt retract on a fourth gen. So...all you really have to do is use a seat belt bolt and bolt the fourth gen bottom piece under the carpet. Be creative about how to make it look nice, but most people wont notice. Ill post pics of how Im making it look good...Im almost done. They work SO much better than 3rd gen belts. Dont forget you have to change the recieving end of the belt...thats bolts in easily.

I will get some pics of mine. I think mine look pretty good. I found a camaro at the wrecking yard that didnt have bottom retractors and had a bottom belt like the 4th gens so the door sills had a hole for it and it looks alot better then the big gaping hole.

I converted my belts from a 2002 T/A. I just kept the plastic rectangular cover for the original belts. It was just held on by a pop rivot. I simply slid a light guage mteal piece inside the plastic collar on the 4th gen belt, then took a black #2 panhead self tapping phillips screw and screwed the plastic cover into the 4th gen belt end that had the light metal strip inside it. The housing fits TIGHT and looks just like a factory application. All I had to do is lengthen the opening in the original 3rd gen housing cover to allow the 4th gen blet and cover to fit through. I have had people kick and bump it when getting into the back and its always held perfectly. This way you don't have that ugly opening on your door sill mouldings where the old belt assembly used to be. I wish I had pics to show you but the car is in storage. It looks like one of the nicer ways I have seen so far IMO.

i emailed the guy who wrote the tech article on installing the 4th gen belts, here is what he replied
What order you mount the belts in all depends on how you want it to
look. Had I known what I learned when I started the swap I would have cut
a bolt hole through my carpet and mounted the belts on top of the carpet
instead of under it. I don't know 100% for certain that an untrimmed belt
will bolt on top of the carpet but I'm pretty sure it will. I know that an
untrimmed belt will not bolt in under the carpet, you must trim the plastic
cover to get clearance between it and the floor pan.
You can see the pics I took of the belt swap here:

And the picture of the "gap" (more like hole) left in the sill plate here:

This is what I was talking about. If you use the 3rd gen seatbelt cover the install looks very clean and you have no hole in your sill plate. Once you have it as far as the link above shows, it takes only another 10 minutes to transfer the original 3rd gen belt housing cover to this pice on the 4th gen belts. The finished product is way cleaner and original looking than the above pic. The pic just looks like something is missing.

I had to do no trimming to get it to fit under the carpet, and i didnt have a long enough bolt to bolt it above the carpet.
