Need some help.

About two weeks ago some punks decided they needed my rims and tires more than I did so they stole them. No big deal. I am glad I could help out the less fortunate. I work 40 hours a week and go to College too so you know some day I will save up enough money to buy new tires and stuff. Well when I was looking at the car to make sure there wasn't any damage done while they took off the tires I noticed that mother nature has done a real number on my baby. Here is a picture of the driverside rear wheel well. It is probably the worst spot other than the quarter panels. Do you think this is fixable or should I buy another 3rd gen and swap out what ever I can? It is a mostly stock 1984 Z-28. Thanks for your help.

I don't know about the frame or anything but I know there is some rust on the 1/4's and on the front fenders. I think I am going to replace them anyways so it really doesn't matter.

About the only thing I can think of is put the locking lug nuts on it. Yeah they can break the lug off but it is a lot harder than just taking the lug nuts off. The other thing you should do is keep full coverage or atleast theift insurance on it. It will cost more but when those $1800 rims and tires come up missing you will be glad that you only have to pay out a little bit and the insurance picks up the rest. I didn't have the insurance on mine so now I had to scrape up 4 rims with usable tires to move my car to a safe place. Good luck.

Well, there are a few ways to repair it, some pretty extensive (cutting, welding, etc), but for the time being I would take a drill & wire brush to it to get it clean, and apply some XO-Rust, Por-15, or similar black paints that seal rust and prevent it from spreading. That stinks about the rims, I am getting a little reading all these posts about vandals and thieves. Heck I'm sure we could all post about experiences if TGO started a thread about it

I got lock nuts from the Pontiac dealer for 15 bones.

They are the same style as the regular lug nuts but the "key" fits inside of the lock and the plastic cap screws right over the top of it. You couldn't tell that they are on the car until you take off the caps.

Hint: Don't drop the key in 6" tall grass on the side of the road at 4:30 in the morning while changing a flat. I now have a strip of reflective tape around the "key",..... just in case. Took me 45 min to find it after I dropped it.
