I think I might need hood pins....
I have been looking at my SS hood...and it looks like that the paint is just barely cracking right where the SS scoop starts. My hood seams to wobble alot on the right side when I drive it. I can even pull up on the hood (on the drivers side) and it moves up and down pretty bad. Have any of you ever used the hood locks that summit sells? Mr. Gasket is the brand....here is the link:http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=MRG%2D1472
I think these would look way better then the actual pin type hood pins, and having the locks...it would be safe and you wouldn't scrath your hood with pins. Autozone carries these too....(a different brand) but it looks like that the threaded studs are pretty short. So I was wondering where at on the hood did you install these for them to look good?

I have the locking set from Autozone and love them. People always ask me where I got them. They are much better than the ones with the pins and cables. The main reason I got them was due to the hood looking like it was going to fly open on me at high speeds.
Here is a pic of where I put them. In the pic, the locks looks as if they are really far back. In person, they look just right.
I can send you a pic or two of where to mount the studs if you would like. The hard part is that you have to cut two holes about 1 1/2" around for the bottom plate.
By the way, I am getting the hood painted tomorrow!

i think thoes locks LOOK great..... but if i have to get under the hood in a hurry (and its happened before) i dont want to have to wait to unlock thoes.....
with cotter pins and the stock latch i can pop open the hood alot faster....
athough thats my opinion.. if you already had the key in hand, i could be wrong about how long it takes to unlock them in a rush...

sounds like a good idea.....but is there any possible way to locate them closer to the front and more towards the outter edge of the hood?

I will try to take some more pics from different angles and then from the underside. Maybe they will look different once the hood is painted, but in person, they look just right. Not too far back or in.

Ok, here is a pic of the hole under the hood. As you can see, there is not a lot of room to move the hole. I wanted to move them closer to the front, but: 1. the further forward you go, the hood gets a little weaker. 2. Any other place, and you will have a hard time getting the pin to mount.
This was the first time that I have ever mounted hood pins, so I was very cautious. I did not want to mess up a hood that cost me over $500!
Hope this helps.......

P.S Oh, and look at the first pic. I changed it to one that appears to not be as far back as the last one.

88aziroc - Are you locking those to your radiator support? I just put a fiberglass cowl induction hood on my car, and I was looking for locks EXACTLY like those. My brother works at Autozone, if you could get me a part number that would be awesome!.

Here is a pic of the stud. If you look at your car, you will see that this is the area that is the most simple to get to. You have to put a nut on the top and bottom of the mounting area to lock the stud in place. You MUST be able to get to both nuts to make final adjustments to the hood pins.

man, that's a huge hole.....it looks good, don't get me wrong....I just still think I would like them closer to the front of the hood.....I've installed several set of hood pin kits....with no problems. I notice that the actual threaded shaft that the locks come with is much shorter then the threaded shaft that the hood pins come with. I probably won't end up installed a set since my hood is painted and everything.....I guess I never thought about it before...but if I went through with a drill.....there is a change that my paint could crack....just like how the opposite side of wood cracks when drilling a hole. http://hometown.aol.com/hofner2001/images/dcp_0072.jpg
here is a picture of my brothers 87 Z28 with a set of hood pins I installed....I like how they are positioned...
by the way......what actually keeps the chrome plate attatched to the hood? With the regular hood pins...there are 4 screws that that keep the plate on.....and I've noticed that the hood lock kits do not have the 4 screws....

84 why you worried about crackin your paint, i thought you were getting it repainted anyways? Just put the pins in before you get it painted!
