Best way to strip a front & rear bumper cover ?????

I want to strip the clear coat, paint and primer from a front and rear bumper cover that I have(for an 84 Trans Am). what is the best way to do it??? I saw in a car mag (I think Hot Rod) where they stripped a bumper cover for an 80's Mustang using a d.a. sander but I would think that would gouge the hell out of a bumper cover so that doesn't sound like the way to go. a body shop told me they could have it bean blasted. anyone know of a paint stripper I could use??

it really wont gouge it. Just use a 100 or 120 grit paper on it and it should do fine. When i was in high school autobody we would do it alot.

someone told me that aircraft stripper will take it off i know it takes clear coats off in a hurry when using it on my rims so i wouldn't see why it would work for that too It's ike 5 bucks a can at auto zone and you can get a brush on bottle for like 6 bucks

Do you think the stripper is strong enough to melt the bumper too or not? cause i know alot of that stuff is horrible and burns a ton if you get it on you

if youre not too worried about wrecking the thing then try one of these sugestions its the only way to learn. Personally i would rather spend the extra couple bucks and have them deal with it as it lies in their area of expertise.

You can buy a special stripper made especially for urethane parts. Call your local auto paint store as they will have exactly what your looking for.
