seat belt question

I am taking out the carpet in my car. I want to take off the driver and pass seat belts that are against the tunnel. There must be a trick to getting the cap off without ruining it. Anyone got the answer. I have a hanes manual with nothing and I didn't come up with anything in a search.
Thanks

Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Carefully pry it out a bit and twist...it has a 'notch' on the backside to allow it to 'screw' into place; similar to the retaining pins on a door panel.
