digital dash
I have seen a few T/A's with the digital dash and I was wondering where I could possibly pick one up and if it is a hard install? Thanx for any help

Since 1986+ dash clusters are all electric, the digital dash should pop right in, provided it is post-85. Though the camaro cluster must in a Camaro, Firebird in Firebird; but that's obvious

out of curiosity why do you want a digital dash? The best reason ive ever heard to NOT have one is because its a lot easier for your eye to pick up a needle sweeping accross a face and have it register as something (ie for rpms) then numbers going up and down.

It's all about personal preference.
Personally, I think the digital speedo is the best thing since sliced bread, but the rest of the gauges absolutely suck. The tach is a "sweeping" tach instead of a numeric display, but it's so imprecise that it borders on useless. All of the other gauges are bar graphs or pointers instead of numbers, which again... sucks.
My Vette is the cat's ***. That dash has the digital speedo (and gas gauge, but I can deal with that) and everything else is analog. Best combo ever.
As for the sweeping needle... I tend to agree completely, but since my speed during acceleration is of much less concern than my RPMs, it's not a thing that I need to see in those situations. When travelling a steady speed the digital readout is great.
Plus, it didn't take me long to adjust to watching the digital numbers rise and to "anticipate" just like I did with the needle.

the C5 has the coolest setup of all IMO..
you can have your nice needles in the dash..... but the digital numbers seem to float out in air infront of you, right about over the drivers side headlight/fender area...
its pretty sweet...

Yeah, I wasn't sure how well it would work but oh man, that C5 HUD rocks. Very cool.
As for the Digital dash, and finding it. I know that LFN AT U has one, with EVERY wire from nose to tail needed to do the job. And Denny wants a VERY pretty penny for it.

Hey Jim85IROC why is it that you didnt like it? It was a change of mind, or it just didnt look cool once you saw it out of the box. Mine will be arriving on Friday, and would like some more opinions before I install it. Summit says you can return any unused product for a full refund within 90 days(I think) but I just want to be sure before I install it. More comments anyone on this digital dash please.

I don't care for the tach, plus it's an old unit that probably wouldn't have been able to update the display fast enough to keep up. My buddy has an LG4, so that's not an issue for him.
I'm happy with my white faced gauges until I update to a custom cluster with autometer instrumentation.

Hey Jim85IROC what other part do you need to install the digital dash to an 85 Iroc. My cluster has a cable from the trans(700R4) to the speedometer and the digital has only a grey electrical cable? What do I need to make it work, also any hints as to installing the damn thing. Is it wire color coded or do I have to figure it out myself? This thing better not give me any headaches or im returning it "HELP"

what cars had digital dashes other than the 87 and 88 gta's? or are we talking about like.. aftermarket dashes here? cuz if you're talking about a gta digital dash.. i think the dimensions are quite different than the analogue dashes....

I have one in my GTA, I agree with JIM the tach just outright sucks, and the other guages arent the greatest either, but i like it when it tells me I have a light bulb burned out If you wanted to swap it out and have everything work then you will need the entire dash not just the guages, and the entire wiring for the car, if you want the convience (sp) center to work.

Hello Dark Man C,
That sounds like it could be an interesting project there. On a side note, when you post in the future, could you kindly refrain from using all caps in your posts. On the board it is considered shouting and is rather impolite.

Good luck finding a Digital Dash. I love mine, but I am having a problem with some of the LED's. I've talked to some other people and it seems to be a common problem on them.

I have the digital dash, and I have mixed feelings on it. My '89 GP had the digital speedo and gas gage, which was pretty good and I liked the ease I could read my current speed. Everything else was analog, and I liked it like that. My '96 GP was all ananlog and I missed the digi-speedo...! I was considering replacing my tach, oil, temp and battery gages with analog ones, but only after the current ones die. They look cool and all that, (nice and sophisticated) but it gets annoying when trying to monitor my temprature and I can't easily tell if its going up or down, it has to think about which LED to light, and I get suprised when it goes up, when I wanted it to go back down... with an analog, I would be able to know that sooner!
I thought some Berlinettas and S/E's had digitals too, along with the overhead cluster.
