To Badge or Debadge

In the process of restoring my 88' RS just looking for a general consensious on the whole exterior look. Should I make it look like an Iroc , Z28 , RS or just debadge the whole thing and go for a clean street machine look....

Welcome to the boards.

If you search this subject you'll find that most of us (not all) are against badging your car as something it isn't. Bottom line is that it's your car though.

Clean street machine with no badges is always cool!!! Especially if you shave the spots on the rockers and rear bumper where the emblems go.:hail:

id say leave it badged as an rs. I dont think debadging is cool its what ricers do because theyre ashamed of what they drive so they dont want you to know what it is. And i wouldnt put it as an iroc or anything because why would you want people to think your car is something it isnt? How awesome would it be though if you left the rs badges and then mod your car right into the 11's??? would love to see the look on a viper owners face as you stomped him in an rs....thats the beauty of the rs badge!

i always like the idea of leaving the RS badges and whomping people with it..

the *****/racers think its only a RS that whomped them...

idiots on the street will call it a iroc anyway (regardless of year or model)

and people who know **** about cars will realize its modded by the way it sounds/drives/goes..

plus leaving RS badges has a added benifit..... humor.

my avatar was somthing i made after i came back from a mini car gathering one night...

went somthing like this:
i pull up and end up parking next to a cobra and somthing else... theres a good mix of cars, athough im the only thirdgen.. lotsa **** though.

these 2 guys come up to me..
"hey, is that a IROC? sounds mean man whats underhood?"
umm, its a RS, and its stock
pop the hood man.
really theres nothing intresting, its stock
what are you hiding?
fine. **i pop the hood**
hey thats a cool intake **points at my summit chrome air cleaner.**
**his friend turns to him**
"Whats a RS mean anyway?isnt that slow?"
"no stupid, its like a SS only type R."

i was LMAO

hahaaahha that's golden.... SS type R... lol..

anyways.. my car is completely unbadged... not a thing on it... people called it a Trans Am, because it looks identical to a 82-84 TA, because of the 82 front bumper.

Not that I have a camaro but I am debadging my TA. I don't even want a bird graphic unless it is hidden somewhere.

Yes. There was the base Camaro and then the RS. In 87-88 the RS was avaliable in limited markets and could only be had with a V6.

Haha, and all this time I thought it was your way of ragging on the RS.

anyways,
I'd leave the RS badges on it, be proud of what you drive.

It depends on what you're doing. Overall, I am against badging it as something it isn't. Some will say that if you have the "*****" in the car to back up Z28 or IROC emblems, then its okay to rebadge it as such. But no matter what you do, your car will always be an 88 RS to me, so I would keep it badged as an RS or remove all the badges for a clean look.

Ultimately, its your decision though since its your car.

i agree with the masses here......

I say be proud of what you have and dont be one of those guys bragging about his car as something its not. I can tell you from being in the car scene for along time, No matter where you are out there there will always be someone that is really sharp on your type of car, they will know the difference & usually that knowledgable person is big in the scene, then you & your car will be labeled as just such a phoney. I say keep the RS emblems, I also have a RS and would not even consider changing the emblems. Besides a RS is usually cheaper to insure. I have seen people mis-represent their cars with insurance companies ( such as a regal, and its really a Grand National ) and have seen that same company deny coverage for just such a technicality. I say shave-em or be true to your badges.

Think that's what I'll do then agree with the masses, no need trying to label my car as something it's not.

i'm cool with "cloning"

but not nessacerialy rebadging

i cloned my RS into a Z28.........everything from the aero wing to the wheels to the hood and

its not really a Z28, but i like the Z28 and thats the reason I did it, not because i am ashamed of having an RS

I just recently changed out everything on my 89 RS to make it look like an IROC-Z, hood/wheels/taillights/paint/grille/foglights, and put on the stripes, door decals, and rocker/bumper/dash/engine designation emblems. I don't race or show it or talk it up, it's just for me to enjoy. IROC-Z's look better than stock RS's. The original VIN number and RPO codes are still there.

The whole idea behind the RS for Chevrolet was to have a car with the IROC look but the V6 economy and insurance break. It's just missing some of the aesthetic details.

If you like the look of an IROC-Z or Z28 then go with it. As long as your not ever going to have your car judged, forget what the masses think because it's not their car.

if it was my car I'd debadge it for the clean look. I don't have any stripes or decals on my IROC, and next time I paint it I'm filling in the stock badge spots on the ground effects too.

But, if you want badges, keep the RS badges. There's no sense in being a poser.

I personaly like the clean look of no badges/stickers.

But if you do put badges on, I wouldn't put IROC or Z28 badges/stickers on an RS. thats just what the import people do, stick "type-R" on everything (even Neon's and Saturns).

You can pick up some nice new badges (or clean up your old ones). Leave them on, and people will think "oh, just another RS", then you show them otherwise (assuming you'll have some power).
