Installed my Cervini 3" cowl

It fit's like a dream, I couldn't be more satisfied. Easy install, and no grinding needed as with some harwood hoods. There is no gap between the hood and front nose clip. Also, the cowl DOES ride back on the windshield like the harwood's. The underside is also gel coated, so it's ready for paint if you're looking for the show finish. I would definetely recommend it. I'll have pics soon.

I just installed mine as well, and it fit perfectly. It needs to be adjusted to get it just right, but definatley doesnt need to be trimmed. The finish on the hood is great, and it feels like its pretty rigid. I'll have pics soon as well.

Well, I tried and it was somewhat working. IAT readings were pretty cool in comparison to what they use to be. But the ram air definetely "feels" better, and when you got a lack of air like I do, attempting to ram it down the tbi's throat seems to work. Remember, the ram air boxes are on there, just don't have pics.
I'm also gonna make runs with and with out the ram air next time I make it to the track, but unfortuantly that will be a while now....

Also, as far as I'm concerned the only purpose of my cowl hood is hood clearance I would have liked to have gone with the ss ram air hood, but unfortuantly I feared that it wouldn't give me the clearance I needed. But I am satisfied wi th cervini hood, awesome fit, and keeps the underhood temps way down, and gives the car more attitude.

umm, the scoops arnt ramming more air in there..

they are just letting it get cold air from the front area....

this is going to sound like im ragging on you, but please hear me out, im not raggin, just trying to help.. seriously.

your front cold air kit, its not very good... heres why

you have your entire air cleaner covered except the area where the pipe connects. that means the filter space is the area of the pipe.

now stock you'll notice that when the air comes from the tube, it goes into a area that goes around the air filter... then thru the entire filter into the motor.

currently, you have less filter area then stock.. that HAS to hold you back some.

now that you have a ram air hood, heres what i would do.

get a piece of sheetmetal...... a big square one. cut a hole so that it fits over your throttle body... now attach that piece to the underside of the bottom air cleaner housing.

now get some nice thick foam bars.... glue them to the sheet metal around the air cleaner... but leave a nice LARGE gap between the air cleaner and the foam.

run the tallest aircleaner that you can find.... or take 2 air cleaners and stack them. you can use for example two 3" air cleaners to have one 6" tall.

you need to get a stud to extend the length of your air cleaner stud.... you'll have to bend it similar to stock, but its not hard.

doing that will seal your aircleaner to the cowl...

done right, it wont look too bad either.

and then you will be using your cowl hood.

I may attempt that one day, and thank you for the idea. It does make sense

But you are miss understanding the way my ram air works. There is no air cleaner around the TBI. The two air filters are in the TPI air cleaner up front, so you get the idea of the filter size. My ram air ducs have much larger intake area then the two ovals in the hood(you can see in the pic), and the ram air ducs get the air through the z-28 grill. The only "restrictive" part of my set up would be the 3" pvc pipe, but it acts as a velocity tube, and I believe it to flow smoother than the cowl would. As the cowl openings do not ajoin from the ones at the exterior to the ones you see in the interior, there is an open gap, if that makes sense.

And I realize that filter size is very important, but I run without filters at the track anyways.
Also, I started the project before I ever thought about a cowl hood.

Got the same one. Great fit, and almost as sturdy as a steel hood.

Nice ride 91TPI

Like he said the hood is very sturdy. In comparison to my buddy's harwood 3"cowl, the Cervini is definetely stronger, albiet a little heavier, but it does have a paintable underside, unlike my buddy's.

hood weight

I imagine if that hood is fiberglass it must weight a little less than stock steel.

How much weight did it drop?

Looks good! If I get a hood it would be that one or the Jongbloed hood, if the jongbloed fits well.

The hood wieghs quite a bit less than the stock steel one. I am sorry, I no longer have the delivery slip, or else I could tell you the wieght.

The cervini hoods can be found at http://www.cervinis.com

Harwoods can be purchased thru summit and jegs.

That hood looks awesome!

So how noticeable is the 3" over the stock hood while driving the car? Just wondering if it impairs vision that much. I'm thinking about a 4" on my car.

The fit and finish on that hood is WORLDS beyond my Harwood.

My cousin has a Cervini hood on his Mustang and I've never seen a fiberglass hood that was such high quality aside from the stock SS hoods on the 4th gens. You'd never know it wasn't a steel hood.

R90-
Nice job on the install! Hood looks good- Is the clearance from the cowl edge to the windshield the same when the hood is open versus closed? Just curious.

I guess the main thing is that the cowl doesn't touch the front glass when it is open- evidently it does not.

And what was all that stuff about you gf not wanting to let you borrow the camera you gave her? I wondered the same thing about my last one- where do they get this sense of entitlement?
dang!

Who knows. Needless to say she's no longer my girlfriend, not because of that, but it's stupid stuff like that that will drive ya crazy.

I'll have to check on the windshield distance. Like you said, it never makes contact. It contours to the windshield beautifully though. Also uses all of the stock hood mounts.

I'm also using my hood struts, which not only shows how sturdy it is, but is also a nice thing to have, especially as often as I have the hood open

The hood does look good, the hood I used came from Unlimited Products out of California. Back in 91 when I ordered the hood, it was one of only a few companys that made a nice looking hood. The cost wasn't bad either, I think about $300 at the time. I put a couple pictures of my car with the hood I used. It has a 21/2" tall cowl on it . I also like the body line in the middle of the hood that resembles the factory body lines. Underneath I used a sheet of aluminum with a hole cut out of it for my air cleaner to set up in. Also, my hood took some prep to get it good, the gaps and lines were good, it was just lobs of gelcoat on the under side that took time to get off.

cc 82z, that hood looks good. Can't beat the price either. Even with inflation and what not, $300 at the time is still a great deal especially considering the lack of aftermarket hoods as you mentioned.

Swerve,

I checked the hood while opening it, and the cowl stays plenty clear of the windshield. There is about 7" between the windshield and cowl when the hood is fully extended the length of the hood struts.

Thanks-
I was just curious what arc the hood hinges followed- just for future reference. I guess, since your hood uses the stock springs, it wouldn't be any different than a stock hood.
