Well Im not to sure when I can get started. I would like to next week or so. And with the keys. I gunna have to wait for the lock smith. He is a friend of my ant and I'm kinda on his time. I have some where around $1,500 to work with. I would like to get it running good before I do any body work. And Im hoping I can paint it at my friends shop. I think the body work is what’s gunna take most of my money.

Bag the locksmith...

Go to Kragen or Autozone and just get a new ignition switch. Remove steering wheel and put a new lock in. You can order new door locks also. The only one that I see to be a PITA will be the trunk/hatch lock.

Start this puppy already!

Do you have any kind of manuals, if not I would suggest that. The Helms manual that everyone here sweres buy 100.00 bucks. Ihave 2 chiltons, one one the car itself an one on fuel injection system and eltronic engiane controls, And one hayes. Also One idem you realy should consider is buy a multiester.Craftsam has one for 30.00 bucks and a book for 10.00 . Youll save yourself Time, money an agravation. Dont go cranking that engine over jus yet You have no idea whats sitting in that oil. Keep use up to date.

I was wondering if any one here as put in a new wiring harness. I know that I have to replace it. I just wondering how hard they are to do. And if any one has used Painless Universal Wiring Harness. And how much work are they to get them to work. I dont mide the work at all. I would just like a heads up. And Im not sure what one to get. 12 Circuit or 18 Circuit. I dont have power locks or windose but Im not sure what to get for the 84.

To replace the hatch lock.....you'll have to go to a GM dealership and order one. It comes as a kit, with no keys or tumblers. If you have door keys, just take it to a locksmith, they'll assemble and key it to match for about $10. If you don't have door keys, get new door lock cylinders from a parts store and the process for the hatch is the same

As for wiring, check with Hawks and thirdgenresource, they might have something for you.

And check the roof out well enough to ensure that it doesn't leak, beyond that, make getting it on the road your priority.

I got it off the trailer today. Fun time.... Crap was flying. But any way. I was going throgh it. And I found some of paper work on it. in 94 he had the fuel pump replaced. In 97 the starter, Exhaust clamp x2, carb overhaul, carb float, flue filter, and intermediate exhaust pipe were replaced. I also got some emissions charts on it. Glad I found some of the paper work on it.

the black item you mention blows cold air onto the fuel filter just inside the carb. prevents vapour lock..

go to www.mortec.com and find out if you really do have a 305... if you're questioning the originality of the engine, then mortec will have the info for you!

go to www.ebay.com and look for a wiring harness, you can get one for real cheap there, and they'd be complete.

Replacing your wiring harness wont be too hard as long as when you swap them just do it one connector at a time.

With 1500 I'd:

-Get the locks fixed
-another wiring harness
-carb rebuild kit (yours probably has varnish in it and it will kill your fuel economy in the long run)
-gas tank
-brake job
-full tune-up (spark plugs, plug wires, dizzy cap, rotor, O2 sensor, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, coolant, rear-end fluid, tranny fluid)
-two snorkles for your air cleaner... and bend out the warpage in there

after that your car should be running about new unless there was a pre-existing condition somewhere in there that didnt need a tune-up.

all of the above should cost you more in time than money... after that, do this:

-headers (go to exhaust section and read about which headers are best for you)
-high-flow catalytic converter (3 inches in/out ... your old cat is probably plugged up and robbing you horsepower anyways)
-3" mandrel bent catback system

after all of this you should probably have about 300-400 left, and a great starting point for your car. The 300-400 can go a far way with your body work that looks like needs done... hammer and dolly dont cost much, primer and a cheap primer gun cant cost much either... then paint it when you have more money

Like I said, this will cost you more in time, than in money (assuming you want to do all this yourself.. it sounds like fun to me! hehe)

I'm jealous of you... such a great starting point in the car, for so little.
