ASCD fiberglass hood floats up about an inch at high speeds

I installed an ASCD cowl hood on the bird and topping the list of complaints I have about it is the fact that when I removed the hood shocks (to keep from breaking the hood when closing it I assume) there is now about 2 inches of play up and down on the end close to the windshield. When I get to about 60 it starts to float up near the windshield. since the shocks are gone it no longer has any bind on the hinges I guess. Is this common? is there some way to keep the hinges bound when they are in the clossed position?

i dont know it that happens to others but you can buy hood struts. I have a ram air 2 hood and i bought 1982 camaro hood shocks for a fiberglass hood. In 82 some camaros had fiberglass hoods. YOu should be able to go to your local gm garage and buy them new for about 75 bucks.

It's either that or hood pins.

I have an ASCD RA I hood, and use the stock type of struts for my Formula. Ive never had a problem with it opening or staying down. It could use a strut with a bit less tension on it, but it does just fine like it is.

I had a big block stinger hood on my camaro and for the most part it stade down pretty good. But on the highway the front corners would just flap in the wind. Hood pins were all that was needed and it didn't look that bad. (sorry no pics though)

I have the big block hood and it works fine with brand new hood stuts. It is pretty hard to shut somtimes. Yes it vibrates a little on the highway but not that much.

yeah glad to see everyone else is having trouble with these flapping-lol! im not sure id like the hood pins on there though,im kinda hestitant to put them on there cuz im afraid they will take the look away...i have a terrible time getting the hood up by myself cuz there is not enough weight on the hood to pop it up when the release is pulled,so i have to have someone pull up on it while i pull the release-lmao,problems i have!

I have the same problem with mine. I figured out that if I stuff my wallet under the front of it while I pull the cable from inside it will pop up. Its nice to know if my car were on fire on the side of the road I wouldnt need a buddy to pop the hood. The wallet thing is pretty stupid looking but it works.
