I need a new Guage Cluster WTF

I called 2 gm parts departments looking for the bulbs for my guage cluster both dealer ships said i need to buy a whole new guage cluster. Why is this i have a 91 Camaro RS. I herd people say you just need a new bulb and socket because the bulb is solderd into the socket. Is there any way around buying a new guage cluster. I would like to get the parts before i take out my guages. Any one have any GM part numbers? From what i understodd from my previous post i just need to twist the socket out and put the new socket with the bulb in. I dont see why i should have to pay 300 dollars for replaceing 10 dollars worth of 194 bulbs.

I called another gm dealer today and asked for the insturment pannel bulb they gave me Part Number 25023918. But it comes up as a Screw in a pack of 5 does that seem correct woudlnt it say bulb? Any one know. There was no picture of this part on the computer when i called. I had the guy check the part number to the shift indacator bulb both were different. Since everyone says the bulbs in the back of the guagues twist in would this be corret then in it showing up as a screw. The cost of the part is 5.92 per bulb and you have to buy it in a pack of 5.

You can use the bulbs without getting the ones with the socket. I did once when the parts store was out of the socket ones and I did not feel like waiting anymore, half my dash lights had been out for over 3 months. I just pulled out the old bulbs carefully and installed the new ones, 3 of them, and I have not had a problem in almost 2 years...

The bulbs in the cluster are standard 194 white bulbs. Yes they are soldered in there. All you have to do is break off the old light, then bend the 2 contact tabs on the new bulb, push the new bulb in the socket and then re bend the tabs down onto the contact spot on the socket. I did this with a different color bulb in my 91 z28 cluster and they work perfect. I used needel nose pliers to break the solder loose. It dont take long at all to do.

the yellow you are seeing is NOT from the bulbs. It is the from the lense on the gauges. If you put blue bulbs in there then you would get a greenish look. If you put red bulbs in you will get an orangish look. Get my point.
also, I highly doubt your gonna find a 90-92 camaro with your style dash in the junkyard still in good shape. Maybe but I doubt it, and if you did I dont think there gonna just let you mess withit and see how its put together.

Its like 2 bucks to get in the junk yard and honestly no one pays attention to anything there ive gone there to get small stuff and put it in my pocket and left because i felt i was getting my 2 dollars worth of parts. And the fact i woulnt know what they were saying at any of them becasue none of them speak a bit of english.

So basicly there is no way to get rid of the yellow color? Anyone try putting LED lights insted of the 168/194 bulbs.

In my journeys thru several junkyards, I have found some of the older model cars have bulbs that just pull out of the socket so you can replace them easily with new #194 bulbs. I just did this about 4 months ago on my 1989 Iroc because half of the bulbs were burnt out. Mine had the bulbs with the pin soldered to the contacts and I replaced them with the removable bulb sockets. The sockets come out of the cluster with about a 1/4 or 1/2 twist.

Check out this page to see how to convert the 'soldered' bulb and holder to the common 168/194.
