Cool shifter idea
Hey guys, I got a real crazy idea in my head and now I want it. I am not big on flashy stuff, but this idea seems pretty cool.
Anyway, I want a pistol-grip shifter that looks like the joystick of a fighter plane, and the trigger for the guns works as the button for the automatic..... does such a product exist? If so, I want it!!!

The only shift **** for an auto that resembles somewhat of your description would be the RAZO shift ****.

A bit pricy at $130 though. There is a cheaper version of the RAZO. I forgot which company makes the cheaper version though. Also check ebay for a RAZO or the cheaper version.

just take apart your shift **** and you will see the button is spring loaded and pushes a plastic stick to disable the neutral switch, just take that and put it in a old computer joystick. ill try it with one and see how it does.

i checked on eBay for the Razo one or whatever, theres one on there for like 40

Na, the Razo one isn't what I am looking for. I want it to like like it was literally out of a fighter plane. I would do the joystick idea, but I think there would be trouble making the trigger push down the button instead of the electronic button it is currently attached to.

Well, as I said before I am not into flashy things... my interior is goign to be all black and nothing to stand out. As long as the shifter itself is also black, there shouldn't be a major clash, but it would be pretty cool. Other buttons... no real need. I don't have anythiong else I need to operate.

If you're looking for a joystick to hack into to use as a shift **** (nice idea by the way, I've been thinking of doing the same thing), you might try searching at auctions sites or computer swap meets for the Suncom F-15 series. They are modeled after the actual F-15 joystick and are easily disassembled to get only the handle separate. The trigger can be replaced with a larger piece to be used to actuate the shift plunger and may look great. I'd show you the stick, but all I have left of it is the base I was using as a experiment for something else.
You might also try getting a used Saitek X36 flight control system. It has more buttons, but it looks a lot better, in my opinion, than the F-15E joystick.

They may not be an F-body, but GM makes the Pontiac Grand Prix with a pistol-grip shifter. You might nab one of those for ideas on the release mechanism.

I think with the right interior mods the "Figher plane" shifter would be cool...

Yeah, and I think I'm going to do it. I'm changing my interior to a red-and-black interior scheme and the stick will match nicely.

Here's a pic of my Hurst pistol grip quarter stick. Pic was taken back in Feb before I got my gauges in. Actually I think that pic was taken when my transmission took a dump for the second time and it's in the shop lol.

i just got the want to make a shifter out of a spatula... don't ask me why..
Actually, i think(not reading what you guys have turned this post into)... i think a knife handle would kinda be interesting as a shifter.. not saying i want to do it, or would ever even consider it, but.. just.. some knife grips are very cool looking. *shrugs*
