Shaved rocker emblems?

Hey guys-

When I bought my car, the guy didn't have the rocker emblems that go on the side GFX. The cheapest new ones I can find are about $60, and it really doesn't matter to me if they are on the car anyways. Filling the holes where the emblems would go wouldn't be to much of a problem for me, I've had plenty of practice with the bodywork lately But, there are two mounting holes for screws on each side that hide under that emblem.

Have any of you guys shaved these before and still had a way to remove the side cladding after it's done? My only idea so far is to drill the holes bigger on the fenders, drill the holes bigger on the GFX, epoxy some bolts in the GFX piece, and fasten the pieces with nuts on the inside of the fender. That's kind of a pain though if I ever had to remove it, being that you would have to remove the wheel and inner wheel well. And if the epoxy cracked I would have to break the GFX piece to remove it.

I'd really appreciate any ideas you might have

Matt

some have just covered the holes, others have done the bolt/epoxy thing.

personally, if it was off the car, id do the epoxy thing.. just because you can get it off... and taking a wheel off and thoes plastic pins for the fender well is a piece of cake.

Hey I'm going to bump this old topic....

What kind of epoxy did you use to keep the stud/bolts in place? And did you use bondo or some type of fiberglass filler to fill in the holes? (hehe did you ever even end up doing this mod is the question I should ask first)

And withot looking at the real thing, I thought I remembered seeing that the gfx pieces had an indent where the logo/tag goes, or is it flush (minus the holes for the mounting?

Haven't done it yet, I'm still undecided about the emblems.

If I were to do it, I'd try and carve the hex shape of the bolt head into the GFX piece to hold it from turning better, and then use something like a 3M quick set epoxy or JB weld to hold it in place. Then use fiberglass to fill the indents where the emblems go. You could use a plastic filler like bondo, but fiberglass is so much stronger. And strength is important when you're gonna have all the rocks and road crap kicking up at it.

Oh, when you fasten the GFX to the car, DONT use loktite or locknuts. To much tq to remove the bolts will crack the GFX guaranteed. Just go snug, and use a second nut to lock the first one.
