trans am guage cluster
has anybody ever made their own custom panel for a trans am? all I see is the camero guys mods. I used to have the full lenght cluster but it went up in smoke! I'm stuck with idiot lights out of a plain firebird. so, its time to make my own mounting for brand new guages, I'd like to see some other people ideas. basically what I have thought about is removing the cluster, and setting the trim panel back in but somehow mounting a flat peice of something ontop of that to mount everything, will that look good or just stick out to far?

that looks pretty good, how is the spedo and tach mounted? did you have to cut anything out to mount them? I'm thinking of having 6 guages with extras being oil temp and air/feul mixture, might look pretty sweet. what do ya think?

Eternal , yeah thats a fully customized dash , its not mine, i talked with the guy at the car show, they car had some cool stuff done to it but it was done by someone who didnt take a lot of time or care doing it, he had a full 2x3 frame, no power steering, skinny front tires , slicks, roll cage , n.o.s. , and a bunch of other stuff, he told me what all of them meant , they all function but i dont remember what they do .

allright, here is my next question. I loked at your pics Zepher, I see you had to cut out the back of the box, is that because the new parts went deeper or just for easy wiring? I'd like to leave the blinker lights in place and the plastic film curcut needs to stay in place for that, I guess. my second question is on the gas guage, does my car fit in as the "most gm cars" or do i have to order one with different ohms?. third question, the amp guage, or voltmeter. how does that wire up? the stock one looks like it just wires up to the power wire and reads from that, but I've seen other you gotta put on a huge wire going to it and have about a million feet of wire just to have it (I never bothered to hook one up so i just dont know about them). I guess thats all for now, I'm thinking of doing the whiteface guages with like a 200mph spedo or something like that, just because I can :P

We cut out the backs since the gauges were so deep and it made it easier to wire up as well.
Voltmeter doesn't need any special wiring, just a positive coming from the ignition and a ground.
If you have a thirdgen then your fuel level sender will work with the gauge.
