Shaving parts...

part on my car. I have a bunch of ideas in my head and well few of them is shaving the stock Z28 badges on the rocker panels and gettin a set of 69 Z28 fender badges and puttin them on the lower part ofthe fender. also when i get my 80-81 z28 fender vents ill be puttin those on a set of new fenders along withthe 69 z28 badges.

now ive seen people smooth out the stock z28/rs badges and i was woundering what did you use to fill it in and also to hold the rocker panel onto the bottem part of the fender where it mounts? i was thinkin of using just some long bolts and fiberglass them into the rocker panels and then use some nuts and washers on the other side where the bolts/studs would go thru the fender.

and please dont tell me nodont put the 69 z28 badges on my car becuz its not a 69 z28 but im doin it becuz its my car and i already know it will look pretty damn good

Go for it brother! It sounds good to me, but do a search... There was a thread a while back where someone had done that but I can't remember what they used.

well i did a serch and only came up with one good post and that was the guy that shaved off the front driving lamps but other then that its mainly just shaving door handles and whatnot but nothing as far as plastics are concered.

anyone with help on this one? i know i could use probably a crap load of that plastic weld epoxy, we sell it at work, i just dont want to use nothing but that. i do have bondo with faberglass reenforment mixed in it that i got like a yr ago and its still good i hope.

I'm the one that filled in my blinkers and also my nose emblem. I'm about to fill in the side Z28 spots where the emblems go. (thats what your talking about, right?) I'm going to use the same stuff I used on the blinkers and nose emblem.

39508 SEM Rigid/TPO Repair Material it's called. the guys down at the paint supply shop said the same stuff will work. it's rather expensive though, $30 something for both tubes (you mix them together). I have half of each tube left, I think I can make it on both of them with what I have, to give you an idea of how much you will need. if not... then back to the supply store I go

Hit your local paint/body supply store, they should have it. Places like Autozone and Advanced don't carry it, I think.

Good luck! I'll be filling in mine here in a week or so.

3M makes a product that does the same thing; its a two part epoxy (lloks a little like JB Weld, but its not) that is strong but flexible. It wont crack and fall out like a fiberglass or bondo type product would. Once its filled and sanded, its basically "one" with the urethane. I have only used it for filling minor scratches and dings in bumper covers and ground effects, but it will work fine for what you're wanting to do. I'm considering molding in my 87 TA fender vents with it.
