Quarter Panel Pricing
I want to replace my quarter on my 84 T/A. I am going to purchase the panel myself. However, I am going to have a body shop replace it for me. I can only do light body work. What is a decent repair price?? My fiance says 2500 at a dealer!!! He also told me to just get rid of the T/A because the car was not worth the repair price. HELP!!! I don't want to sell my baby. I have had him for eight years now.I think it's worth it if that is the cheapest I can get. Plus, I already have some modifications into it. I don't want to sell it. I just need some pricing please.

It's roughly 11.5-12.5 estimated time for R&R on a ¼ panel (as estimated in the Motor collision guide). I would imagine the time estimate is still correct so, multiply that by what your local body shop charges by the hour and you'll have a general price of what it will cost to have it replaced.

why do you want to replace the qtr panel, my guess is the shop can repair it without having to replace it. Do you have any pictures?
if the damage is significant you may want to replace but I would almost bet the shop could repair it.

91bluemettaliccamro, I tried to find some good pics of the quater. No such luck. The panel is rotted through under the gas cap and on the bottom flange. I heard I could putty it. If it is under the 2500 to replace it, i would rather get a new panel.

oh yep, if it is rusted through pretty bad you may be able to section in the piece of the quarter that you need. don't try and fill it. body fill is only for smothing out stuff not to fill in where metal used to be. oh just so you know you can negotiate with the shop. don't let them tell you how much it will cost to fix it. tell them how much you are willing to pay to let them have the privilage to work on your car!!!!!
If you can post pics later, I can give you an idea of about how much labor to try and negotiate with the shop.
good luck

if its rusted in your wheelwell also id be easier to replace your quarter and patch your wheelwell. at our shop we charge 34 an hour for just the body work not counting paint. if its just the quarter rusted you could also try to cut the old rusted metal out, metal patch it and mud it. but its my experience that our car's quarters have lots of lovely curves and bodylines that can be a pain in the rear to get right with mud. so a quarter qould give you straight body lines and curves. it all depends on how much your willing to spend on your car and if you want it done right. check your shops credentials also. make sure the techs are i-car or ase certified and what method they would attach the quarter with welding or panel bonding. bonding is stronger but then your reengineering your car and youd affect the crush zonez of it, which is bad news in a wreck. its up to you though if you need any extra info just pm me i can get you some more times from our computer at work.............good luck

Sorry it took me so long to get back to your responses. That was some great info . I was pretty much in the dark. I didn't think you could negotiate a price. $34 is not bad for body tech labor considering Tire Kingdom charges $70!!!!! I'll try to get some pics. It does need replacing.
