Opinions wanted: Chop top Camaro....
I'm seriously getting more and more interested and enthusiastic day by day about really gettting serious about doing bodywork and stuff.....i love doing that kind of stuff, i'm decent at modifying and painting pretty much anything you throw at me although i havnt had any experience on a car yet......
I was at Barns and Noble the other day and they had a book on how to chop tops......
I skimmed through it, but didnt buy it (i wanted a book on building low budget SBC engines instead lol) but it left me thinking.....
I would love to make a chop top third gen.....i've never heard of anyone else who has, and i think it would look amazing. Now i know that there wouldnt be much headroom and stuff, but i think i could get around that if it wasnt a drastic chop.
The only problem i could think of about doing it would be the rear hatch.......With the windshield, i've read that alot of the time if you plan correctly you can use the stock windows and stuff.....but thats with non hatchback cars.....would i have to have the rear glass custom cut?
Any other opinions on this? i know there was another thread on chop top thirdgens, but i want info more about how to actually do it.......

well i mean i think it would look sleeker, VERY unique, more sporty.......it would probably make the car look a little wider as well, which i like....
At this point i dont know.....this will be my first car, so unless i get another car that i can use as a daily driver and i have ALOT of money, i'd probably want to just buy another car and try it out on that....if it turned out good i'd probably just completly build another one......but i havnt ruled it out completly on my first car.......i'll have to get some books, talk to some people, and read the replys on this thread until i'm positive of what i'm going to do....lol

Working with the rear hatch glass would be the first problem. Second, there isn't hardly any extra headroom in the car anyway. I have almost none. Just about two inches and that's it.
I have parked my car next to a 95 cougar and other regular cars and the thirdgen is shorter than all of them everytime. I really just don't see any viability to this idea. I am not knocking what you want to do so much as it doesn't seem possible/worth the work to really do.
Good luck if your going to attempt it.
BTW you might want to get just the body only out of a junk yard to experiement on first. I am sure you could test everything for little or no out of pocket cash.
