Shaved blinkers! Just finished! (many images)
Well, I had a minor wreck and cracked my front nose abit, so I decided to fix the crack. it went remarkably well! So, I went on to try my hand a bit more body work, shaved the nose emblem, and that to went really good! THEN, for some strange reason, I thought it would be pimp to shave off the front blinkers.
I picked up an old scrap nose to use for Urethane material, as well as a "test" to see if I could actualy pull this off:
and
and
and
and
and
any way, high off of my success with the $28 scrap nose piece, I cut out the "filler plates" from that nose, and went to work on my real nose. the results shock me, turned out really good!
and
and
and
A friend of mine helped me wire up my foglights into blinkers (I am electricly illiterate), and they work great!
The primer is just rattle can, and you can see streaks (that make it look like a bad photoshop job), but using the "hand meter", the area where the holes used to be is actualy quite smooth.
I think a friend of mine (who originaly primered my car) said he would help me out and do that for me again when all the body work is done.
Has anyone EVER shaved their blinkers before?
I was just wondering, I knew I had seen a few people "shave" off their nose emblems, but have never seen the blinkers the same way.
anyway, I figured I'd post up and let yall see my progress on the car.

That would be absolutly grand if I were the first to come up with this blinker mod idea, but somehow I doubt I am. anyhow, I have not seen another like this yet

that looks slick! and i've never seen it done before.
what did you use there for filler?
if it's bondo, that's gonna fall to pieces if you get even tapped in a parking lot.

I can't decide if I like it or not. I certainly have never seen that done or even heard of anyone thinking of it. I think maybe it would look better with the emblem on, now the nose is kinda boring looking.
Very unique though, thats for sure

I kinda like it. Now you are going to have to come up with some sort of blinker when you want to have the car inspected.

I like it. Now you can put fog lights in where your blinkers were. Or just leave it blank. Very nice job.

Heh, I think its pretty awsome! Great job on that. I like the idea you used to make the fog lights yor turn signals.
Looks really awsome. Once painted it should be really cool. Now you need to shave everything, handles, locks, antenna, and others.
later,

Thanks for the comments guys :-)
As expected, I see some people arn't as hot on the idea as other, but thats cool. it's my ride, and I like it. Thats all that matters
I used SEM 39508 Rigid/TPO Repair Material to smooth everything out. it's got some flex to it so it won't (shouldn't) crack, but it's still quite strong.
To hold the actual Urethane "filler plate" I cut out, I used plastic weld. about 1 tube of plastic weld per side. If I wouldn't have used some of the Repair material on the crack and front emblem, I probably could have just got by with 1 pack of the stuff. But I had to buy another pack to finish the smoothing.
About the fog lights, I was told that they would be legal, so I hope they are. I guess I'll find out when I have to get inspected. Maybe the inspector will be dense, and not know what a camaro is supposed to look like

That is the coolest thing I have seen. The blinkers are the only thing that I dont like about thirdgen camaros(I mean I HATE them). And you took care of that problem. Freaking sweet work man. I would love to find out if that is legal in CA(probably not, nothing cool is) That might get me thinking about getting a thirdgen maro.

if you want any more info before you start, email me. Though, it's really quite easy. I guess because if I screw up, I technicly still have a ride that runs. So I kindof had no fear about the entire thing. My engine on the other hand...

Looks good I've got a pic on another computer of a guy who did something like that but he kept the blinkers in the stock location. There was only a couple of slits for the light to show through.

I am really wondering if this has ever been done before. I have posted up on several forums, and everybody seems to think it's a pretty original idea (including the foglight thing).
Dang, that makes me feel real good! I hope I don't get high off of my success with the blinkers and screw up something else on my car...
anyway, I'm thinking of shaving the side markers, but I wonder if that is legal? because nothing will be replacing them (like the foglights replacing the front blinkers).
anyone know? (I'm in Phoenix Arizona, how do I find out the laws here?)

i do believe that it's pretty much illegal to remove the sidemarkers completely, I would just use the clear ones from procarparts.com. If you want something else to try ever see GM's camaro with the molded in F40 wing. It uses a firebird bumper cause it has the license plate in it, and a custom taillight panel. That would be sweet to see on another car. I have some pics if you want.

Here you go. It is a lot of info, but you will find your answer here. Just might want to bookmark it for future use.

Lighting equipment is under Article 16.
This is only Arizona law, but it MAY apply elsewhere..........

conlinj: I don't think I like the idea, I heard "wing" in there, I'm not to hot on wings.
I don't want to get to crazy with stuff, and I'd like to make the stuff my self (gives me a sence of satisfaction, not purchasing a 'kit').
But I would like to see a picture, Idonno, maybe I might like it :-)

F40 Camaro
You would definatly have to make that. It was built for the Director of the F-body program at GM.

hm... I'm not to much a fan of that. it looks (no offense) like an import mixed with a camaro.
I guess I am a bit more conservative with my style preferences.

what if you used a clear plastic, but kept it flush with the rest of the front end, then painted it with paint that is transparent with a light behind it. kind of like what people paint they're taillights with. just an idea

That F40 looks alot better in person. Those pics were taken at the GM nationals show in Carlisle, PA.. That car looks sweet! The pics don't do it justice at all.
Anyway, about the lights....I love the look. Looks good. I'm not sure about other states, but here in Maryland all, I mean ALL factory equipment lighting equipment must be in tact and operational in order to pass inspection. Hopefully, you'll get a dumass who doesn't know that the lights are supposed to be there. But with my luck, I'd end up getting John Moss or some camaro expert inspecting my car
I think you should shave the door handles, antenna, and "french" in one of the lip spoilers on the hatch. Would make for a smooth looking car there!!

I like it because you have foglights on the car....
I don't think it would look as good if there were no visible foglights on the front of the car.....
But it's definitly different and i like it...

Wow, that looks SWEET.
It gives your car more of a 'race car' look. It looks more like a real IROC race car.
I think a nice 5 inch spoiler & a cowl hood would make your car look f'in outstanding!!!
