Carpet replacement... ACC or not?

I've been reading up on carpet replacements...

I've heard ACC sucks and fades:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...carpet+replace

I've also heard numerous people praise ACC.

I've also seen people use "flashing" underneath the carpet:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...carpet+replace

WHAT CARPET IS THE BEST? I am going to be swapping my red carpet in favor of some new black carpet.

I will be in need of both black PASSENGER carpet and black LUGGAGE/TRUNK carpet. Who sells both as a complete kit?

BTW: In looking at some cars, I saw this '89 Vert's new black ACC carpet. Look like its burgundy... Comments? Look between the rear seats and then compare to factory black on the console and the rear D/S panelling.

I cant beleive that ACC stuff fades out like that. More then one person has complained about bad quality control. There supposed to be the best. I was about to buy some. There is a company on ebay that sales the(ACC)front and back for about 199.00.

But if its gonna look like crap in a year why bother.

Thats what I've been thinking.

I read that entire thread about how bad ACC was and then I see like 10 other threads stating that ACC is the best...

I did notice that the ACC color that most complained about turning green was the grays... I didn't hear much about black, but judging from the above photo, it either photographs really badly, fades quickly, or isn't actual black.

ARGH.

I think there may be more to that pic than we realize. The rear 1/4 panel area on the passenger side is the same burgandy color as the carpet, and that should be black too. I think it might be a funny lighting situation, or *something*. But, without seeing it in person, who knows.

My buddy put the gray ACC carpet in his camaro a year ago, and the gray & black were the two colors that had the most fading complaints. His gray still hasn't turned the least bit green like others have said. His carpet still looks great. I just put the beechood stuff into my GTA and I absolutely loved it. It fit perfect and looks great.

Others have had problems. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, although I have noticed that a lot of the people's fitment issues seem to be related to their installation abilities (though not in all cases).

Nobody seems to have any complaints with Car Motorsports (other than them never sending samples that I requested), but not a whole lot of people seem to have their product here either. There are definately some ACC complaints, but considering the huge number of people with their stuff, percentage-wise it may not be all that bad.

If that is the case, mayble their carpet may not be so bad...

I've been working on the car all day....... I took my seats out and its insane how much more RED the carpet under the seats was... The exposed portion is almost maroon its so stained.

In the case of ACC, can anyone direct me to the CHEAPEST place to buy it? I need a COMPLETE set, including the passenger and trunk compartments.

I had several fit issues. I think I started the ACC sucks thread your reffering to. I haven't had it long enough to get into the color fading issues.

My carpet didn't fit well. When I got it lined up in the front the back area didn't cover very well. I noticed there were alot of places where the carpet tries to bunch up. It does not lay well in the floor pan.

There is another company called Car Motorsports. I saw pics of it installed. Now what is interesting here is the differences between the carpets.

OEM carpet has a rubber backing. This keeps it from sliding and it's pretty good about keeping moisture from going through to the floor.

ACC carpet. No rubber backing and really oddly placed padding. The only good thing I have to say for this carpet is that the color out of the box is a perfect match for the factory carpet.

Car Motorsports carpet. Can be ordered with or without the rubber backing. They claim their dying technique will prevent fading. It also looks to be an exact color match.

My ACC carpet is in and I managed to cover up all the problem spots. Still I would have liked the installation to have turned out a little better. There are still one or two things that I am unhappy about with the final outcome of the replacement. If I had to do it again I would get the car motorsports stuff.

The rubber backing makes all the difference in how the carpet lays in the pan. I have also been told the mold lines on the Car Motorsports carpet are more visible and a closer match than the ACC carpet.

The Car motorsports carpet with rubber backing will be more expensive. However if the fading thing holds true then it would be worth it in my book even if all other factors were the same.

I will be extremely pissed if the ACC stuff fades in a year. It's not that the installation is too rough or even the money. It's the putting my interior back together part after the stuff is installed that I hated. It just takes forever. Ripping everything out was done in less than one hour.
