Berlinetta auto shifter removal?

I've removed a thousand F-body shifters. They all have the little staple - like - clip in the front. Not the Berlinetta I was in at the junk yard yesterday. I wanted to take the shifter plate to put in my car, but can't get the shifter off. I couldn't find any way to remove it. Anyone ever done it? It had a cool looking radio, anyone need parts from it? I'll be back in it this week, I hope it's still there.
Thanks,
Wayne

I havent removed it from a Berlinetta but I have removed one from my 86 Z. They should be the same styles. To take the **** off first you have to pull up on the button. Then you should see a little C-clip. You need to remove that then the **** will just slide up. Getting the C-clip off is a little tricky. I think they make a tool for removing them but you can also use something with a sharp point and a screwdriver.

No, sorry for not making my self clear. First you have to pull the button completely off. Then when you look into the shift **** you should see a c-clip. Remove that and the **** will slide up.
