odd hatch problem

my hatch wont stay aligned.. it hasnt even had the spoiler on it weighing it down and it still misaligned itself. i did notice that the hatch struts are uneven.. one goes out further than the other.. could that be causing it or is there something worn out that is causing it to misalign itself... it keeps going to the same side. is there some sort of bushing where the hinge bolts to the glass? (this is where its moving)

Thanks

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
There's four bolts or studs on each hinge....two go into the body, and the other two go through the glass. Check those for tightness, and don't go overboard on the ones through the glass.

Sounds like the bolts might be stripped.

Mine does the same thing. It is sticking out further on one side that the other. I have loosened and tighened, adjusted, shimmed. I think after a while, the bodies tend to sag here and there and loosen up. The hatch struts have a bushing on the end that mounts to the car body. make sure it isn't broken or worn out. I have seen others with the same problem. Just remember these cars are getting old and aging sucks!
