Tomorrow, Bromford Autos, Birmingham, about 12 noon. A 1991 RS will be driven in for it's new paint. I am then going to abandon it for about 3 weeks!! Hopefully Karl and Lisa will look after it for me!!

I'll keep you all posted on it's progress.

Hi Guys.
Take about 3 weeks Karl said.
BUT, unfortunately, my Wife's Dad died during the early hours of this morning. Horrible. Makes you reassess everything. Consequently, the car didn't make it down there. We are going on a well needed holiday on Saturday so the RS will not make it down until the week after next. Hopefully things will have settled down by then. I have made my apologies to Karl, but we will be back. Better and stronger than ever!

Sorry about that Andy. But it does kind of make you check your priorities doesn't it.

Kind regards and best wishes to your family.

Made it at last! In the paint shop!

Well, I finally made it down to Bromford Autos yesterday to get my RS painted!
Karl and Lisa were in their usual good form and kept us entertained and watered in 90 degree heat!
How anyone can work in that heat, I don't know! My matey Steve and myself stripped the car down to it's basic state in a few hours and we had had enough!
Poor old Karl worked through till 1 am to catch up with his landrover painting!!

Click here for a progress report web site! Keep checking back.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andyfan...lisasplace.htm

Good luck to Karl and Lisa (and their offsprings) with the job. A big thanks for their time so far.

Andy.

PS Thanks to uk89camaro, ZZ42Fast and irocfan for their kind words. Much appreciated.

PPS Holidays (in Somerset) were cr*p! Poured down every day! Didn't care though. My 6 year old had the time of his life going to every indoor play place in the area. Cost us a fortune. Next wek we are going to good old Mablethorpe for a few days.

You're right Phil. Good job they are only my spare set of wheels that I use for rolling projects around on!! In fact when I first used those wheels on the sport coupe, the tyres were mounted the other way round (white letters on the inside) when i bought it. I had the tyres removed while I restored the wheels, then had the tyres put on the "proper" way round!

I still like the raised white letter tyres. Try getting them these days though. Does that mean I am an old kretin? Needless to say, the tyres on the RS are non-white letters.

My sport coupe is now having a revival. Suspension parts being blasted tomorrow, then etch primed and 2 packed next week by Karl. In the meantime, the air suspension will be fitted at the front. I will try to make the most of the time that the RS is away!

when i bought my car it had white letter tyres, and looked totaly different to how it does now, i don't have a picture to hand of the car when i bought it, but it had green mossy rubbish growing on the window rubbers, it had no shine at all, and white letter tyres, it looked really *******.

i dont need much excuce to post a pic of it now.

it's come a long way.

Andy,

I'm round the corner at work today, so I'll pop round to Karls and have a peek.

Best of luck at Mablethorpe, you'll need the rest as the new term isn't far away.

Hey good luck with your paint job!

I'm very interested in your progress.....
Just bought a low mileage Pontiac GTA which also needs new paint as it has stood outside covered in bird**** and stuff for nearly four years!
She doesn't deserve that!!! She has to shine like a brand new car again!!!

Greetings from Holland!

Welcome to the boards, Dutch89gta.
You are gonna love that car! Believe me!

I still have the one I bought in 1994 (albeit slightly improved!!).
The black RS is still undergoing paint. You can see it at
http://andyfanshawe.freewebspace.com...lisasplace.htm

Check back for updates.

Go on, get yours painted! Or just cut the paintwork back for now.

Andy.

Just had a look at your website. Nice Camaro's you've got there!!!
I wish I had the hands to do all the stuff you did to your cars.
Especially all the bodywork on your '77 bird. Quality work!!!

See you around!

Hi Dutch.
Haven't heard a squeak from them! The car is in trustworthy hands, and I am seriously busy trying to finish off my 86 camaro. So I am not at all bothered about it yet.
Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to have it back and done, but in the meantime I am more excited about this project at the moment. But, yes, I will post photos as soon as I have them. I will try to get down there the weekend after next in fact.

Andy.

PS Is your car okay? Any improvements yet?

The car's pretty much okay!
Right now I'm waiting for some parts for it like a new heatercore as the old one went bust when I took it for the first drive she's had the last 3 years or so. I also rally need to give it a good service job. Greasing it and new fluids and so on.
And I found out that it has the wrong PROM in it. It has a '87 5.0 5speed PROM when it should have a '89 5.0 5 speed PROM. I'm trying to get the original back tru the previous owner. Hope he can get it back.

Greetings

Hi Phil.
It will sit outside on the drive (where it has always sat) all winter. No covers or anything like that. It will get driven once or twice during the winter, on those rare clear, dry but cold days.

On the other hand, a gentleman in Brum (Lisa's brother, Russ), has asked me to sell it to him! If he doesn't buy it, and I still want to sell, Karl will take possession. So, depending on the state of the bank balance and the quality of the finished article, a decision will be made.

If it goes, the red camaro will have big wheels and will hit the show circuit next summer! If not, I may just have to enjoy driving it!

Yep. All water leaks solved.
The car will certainly be sold. The question is when?

But, who knows? I still have other ideas for it. A project is never finished.
I made the mistake of asking my Wife what I should do! Sell it and pay for a new bedroom she says.

Is yours okay? I miss my sport coupe.

just done 2000 miles in three weeks, so yeah, she's running strong and reliable.

I had a drip come through the t top in some heavy rain the other day, so i'm going to replace the t top seals.

other than that, its all about the same (still looking good)

i've done coming up for 30 000 miles in the two years i have owned her now, and i love it more than ever.

Latest update.
Well, the RS is now painted! Red stripes, black basecoat and loads of clearcoat. Looks absolutely awesome!
Day of painting went like this:
I set off at 6:30 am, drove down and arrived at about 8:30 am. Karl had been there for about an hour already. We both worked through (with Lisa and Lee) until Karl had finished the clearcoat at 2:30 am. I got home about 4 am and didn’t bother going to bed (too “high”!). And on paint fumes! Got to work at 7:30 am. Early to bed tonight I can tell you! Karl got to bed about the same time (but not in the same bed!!).

No photos available yet since the car is still in the spray booth. But Saturday is put together and pickup day! Photos then.

The sight of Karl laying on the clearcoat is one that will stay with me for a long time. That’s a shine I haven’t seen before. I’ll tell you what-if you want your car painted, take it from me, get Karl, Lisa and Lee to do it for you. That paintshop is s**t hot. Bromford Autos should go into the who’s who book of famous people!
Was it worth a complete day of work with no sleep? You bet it was.

My complete gratitude goes out to Karl, Lisa and Lee for their contribution to the completion of my car. No way would this have been possible without them. The amount of work that goes into a respray is hard to believe. You have to see it to believe it. The quality of their work is just unbelieveable.

Go on, get it painted.

Andy.

Looking good Andy!

Have you got to put the glass back in the doors?

Can you PM your home phone number, so I can talk to you about the Charger.

Synopsis :

Drove home 100 miles no worries, got 12 mpg at 55mph. (Gotta find out how much the BP in flight re-fuelling costs are!)
Oops, what's that big patch of oil on the floor?
No prob's, a busted valve cover gasket, fixed.
Oops, what's that big patch of oil on the floor?
No prob's, a busted oil pan gasket..lets leave that one.
Oops, what's that water on the floor?
No prob's, change all the hoses, fixed.
Oops, what's that water on the floor?
Busted rad neck...lets leave that one.
Oops, Where TF did that rusty coloured water on the floor come from?
A busted head gasket.

Attempt for three weeks to remove rusted on headers, and oil pan gasket whilst engine in situ, using engine crane to quote "gently lift 2 inches to clear cross member", cross and curse for a further two weeks, and ignore it.

Damn thing pulls like a steam train though, and is in bodily great shape, albeit with a "aged flattened patina" LOL.

Just too damned cold on the drive, and I'm losing the initiative at the moment.

You are right of course. I'm not selling it now. Been tempted though by the next vert project. But that is put on hold for a few years!!
RS is a bit more together now. Neon under lights next!!

Damn, that ar<x>se end shot is something else......

umm, make sure you really really want a vert before you buy one, they do squeak, and they often leak, but they are good when the sun shines.....

(they also have even less boot space than the coupes)

now drop a buick turbo V6 in there.......... you know you want to.

Hi Phil.
Who says it is going to be thirdgen vert?!! Ooooh no! Has to be one with a 454 rat motor though! Anyone know of a written off 57 chevy vert?!

Kat: Pinstripes? Oh dear no. You misunderstand. Those are painted on stripes. Under about 5 coats of clearcoat! Took 2 and a half hours to mask off. Then another half hour to mask the red off while the basecoat black was done.

Phil... Try it If ya do, no supermarket chick for you when you come over this way next.

Andy umm no I didn't misunderstand.. lol I painted the stripes on my RS (tribal ones) which took about 3-4 hours of taping, laying out and cutting out the design. Then painting it, then clearing it. I prolly have roughly errr 20-25 hours in the stripes on the RS.

More recently we just did a set of flames on a fried of mine 91 Z28 (even tho the damn clear lifted.. The new clear didn't like the old clear at all) We spent 2 days just on the stripes. About 3-4 hours laying out and masking. So I know your pain.

My RS

Hi Kat.
Very nice jobs. Makes mine look a bit sick!
It certainly didn't help us working through to 3am in the morning! Especially when I then had to drive home for 1 hr 20 min, and be back at wotk for 7:30 am!
