just good old fashion cut and splice. make sure there's a good connection. of course, i think your 89 and my 92 have different wiring, but i'm not all that sure.

Those work cuz of the multicolor lenses. Unfortunately, I'm using 85-89 T/A lights so I can't figure it out.

I did my lights by changing the outer socket, used the one from the trans am harness and that is my turn signal.
I am thinking about cutting two small holes and mounting the stock small bulbs into them so that the running lights will light up the entire panel as well as keeping the outermost portion as the turn signal. I think it is a better design this way.

Here are couple of shots of my lights,
Parking lights,

Left Turn Signal

I've got the 91-92 GTA tail lights and they would be perfect on my 88 Formula. It's going to be a pain I think to get them wired up right on my 86 Trans Am

Hi Zepher,

Thats how mine are wired up right now, but that is incorrect.. The whole unit should blink.

Actually, stock T/A lights , the 2 centers in each tail are the brake lights and the turn signals and the outer ones are only running lights.

Hey,

OKie.. The problem is the turn I take it. You can't get the turn to work if your stepped on the brake?

I am not sure how to wire it up correctly so I am going to leave mine as is for now.
When I put my 91 lights into my trans am, that is going to be some work since I need to get my trans am lights to work light my Formula lights.

The link above shows some diagrams on how the lights are wired up, I didn't really look into it though since the outside lens is the turn signal.

Here is a pic of my friends old car. I've got the same lights going into my 86 Trans Am,

I added a smaller socket for a light in the outerside lens so now when the parking lights are on the entire red panel is on and the brake lights are the 2 centers and the blinkers are the outermost ones.
I'll take pics later on tonight since I forgot to take some last night.
Oh, and I didnt use the stock running light sockets since they seemed too long. I had some other sockets I got from a car in the junk yard since they were shorter.

I was thinking of using the stock running lights in all 3 panels, and then brake directional in the middle two like its suposed to. Problem is, when directional is on it will be solid if brake is on.

I actually used an 85 TA wiring harness. Much easier having that. It takes out all the guess work. If you do find one I could tell you what wires need to go where. it takes all of 15 minutes.

My 86 harness was completey different than the 89.
The 86 harness was removable from the rear drivers side of the car, the 89 was further to the front of the car.

Tell me the wires, maybe I'll take the 86 harness out again and try and get it to fit on the 89 and vice versa.

Where to get '91 TA taillights?

I'm into conversion taillights from Firebird's to TA's.
I live in Europe, so I need the blinker to be orange.

Here's my question: Where to get '91 TA tails?
Is the salvage yard my only option? Or maybe someone is getting rid of those?

Well this is how the went on the 85 harness to my 88 and 87 firebirds.
yellow and blue wire - yellow
light green - light green
dark green - dark green
2 brown wires - one brown wire
I dont know if this helps at all, but this makes my lights work perfectly.

I can get you a set of 91-92 T/A Lights, but they are expensive. I paid $238 for my pair. Shipping to Poland may be about $200 or so if it goes by air, so probably $500 for a pair, which to some European countries isn't a lot, at least in Iceland it isn't considered a lot. Everything there is expensive. (btw, I am from Iceland, if you didn't know)

Looking at the wiring diagram, I don't see how its possible. you HAVE to turn the brake light off for the side that the turn is on else the whole light will be solid.

Hey,

OK.. My factory GM book is for a 1992, but I picked upa chiltons book and looked at the diagram.

On a NORMAL firebird, the brake switch has a light blue wire that runs _ALL_ stop lamps.

The turn/hazard switch runs the directional outputs off Pin M (yellow / left), and Pin N (dark green / right).

On a trans-am it appears that the light blue off the brake switch is wired into pin P on the turn/hazard switch. This would cause all lamps to light up on brake, but apparently each side blink accordingly when turning.

I have NOT verrified this, and chiltons diagram is VERY poor. If someone could provide me with a factory 88 diagram of a trans-am lighting system I'd much appreciate it. I'm gonna try to wire it up this way monday or tuesday..

In Zephers T/A to '92 t/a lights, he would want to cut the blue wire going from the brake and run it direct to all 4 tail lamps, and then wire pin M and N direct to the single amber turn lamps.

Since this is my first post here, a few words from me.

I am 37 years old and live in Germany. I drive a white 89 Firebird V6 with T-Tops. I added Cragar wheels (8x15 and 10x15). At the moment I try to replace the Firebird taillights with TransAm taillights.

@anesthes

You can find a diagram for the lights here:

http://www.bandit-online.de/main/dow...ng/87body1.zip

@All
I have a question too. Where is the turn/hazard switch located?

And do anybody know how much this switch would cost, new or used? I couldn't find one here in Germany yet.

Thanks

Andreas
