convt fender

I finally had enough time to get to the boneyard to find a replacement fender. My area has a lot of 3rd Gens. Within 10 miles of Trenton, NJ I have looked at least 20 wrecks, all coupes, mostly 6 cylinder.. most have some kind of damage on the front. Some have ground effects, few have any good parts left on them. I didnt see any G42s, L98's or LB9's for that matter. Surprisingly, rust isn't a factor on 95% of the wrecks.

I have found that the convt fender is shorter behind the wheel well and has 2 extra tabs for bolts. see photo

There is a yard called Camaros and Firebirds in Williamstown, NJ that claims to have 180 Camaros. He doesnt have 1 convt. though.

I may have to fab a coupe fender to fit.

Any suggestions?

heres the damage again!

Very Shameful, low mileage garage kept, no moisture, no dirt and now this! I don't think there is any way to save the original due the creases and tweaking.

Just get any fender from a camaro.

you can cut the 3inches off and re spot weld your tabs on.
I know a few people who have done this and Im about to do the same for my 91 convertable when the time comes to put a fender back on it.

I guess I should have taken my digital camera to the Williamstown place. Well worth the drive.. He has at least 60 third gens, 25 2nd gens and maybe a dozen first gens, at least one L98 and 3 G42 sitting around. lots of doors, fenders, glass, GFX, and noses, rear bumbers etc..

$600 for the G42, 1500 for the L98, which included everything from soup to nuts.

got my fender for $60. He had 3 of them ready to go.

my choice.

Went to that Williamstown place today also around 4pm. I was walking around the yard with my jaw dropped the whole time. It was beautiful there. No lie there was a ton of thirdgen cars and parts there. I picked up a perfect console lid pretty cheap, maybe i'll go down there next weekend and take some pics since I only live like 10 min away. I also talked to him about a new passenger door since mine was kinda screwed up from a hit and run. Same color, same kind of door for 200 which includes him pulling it off of a sweet looking GTA sitting there in the lot.

Just cut the fender exactly on top of the factory brace thats there. Then remove the bracket from your origonal fender, and have it welded onto the new one. I did the same thing to my bird.

Hey, did any of you guys notice any 91-92 Trans Ams at the Camaro and Firebird place? Ive always been meaning to take a ride down there!

88 WS6 TransAm GTA

I couldnt tell if there were any 91-92's. There was a goldish GTA with a buckskin leather interior out there.

Are you talking about the one that is up in the front of his yard? That GTA was the dark red/burgandy color. That one was beautiful, only minor damage to the front end and the insurance company junked it. That the one I'm going to be taking the passenger door from and I also grabbed the center console lid from that one. He had the gold crosslace rims that were slightly larger than the stock ones. I'm not sure how many of them were made but he says he can easily get about $600 for those.

If it's something that requires work, he'll pull it for you. That's what he said about the door that I need. If it's something minor like the center console lid I got yesterday, he'll let you do it. Seems like a reasonable guy and he definitely knows what he's doing. There's already a ton of fenders and doors already pulled and sitting there in his lot. Everything looks like it's in good condition, so it is definitely worth the trip.
