its a custom thing, the main consern is reinforcing the car, atleast sub frame connectors and more likely than not a roll cage. But It looks great, will look forward to seeing some finished targa's

There were no factory targas, only custom made ones. Very Very few have been made, I estimate under 50.
I'm not going to use Sub frame connectors, instead i'm going to fab up a frame. Its gonna be something like a sub frame connector and full underbody frame. I really cant explain it all that well until I acutally make it and show pics of what i mean.

looks like you have made some progress. onething that hasnt been mentioned is exhaust routing. where you have the ability to basically revamp the underside of the car, why not custom make a true dual exhaust setup fit? and then run it from headers to the rear bumper? that would be pretty trick!

also, i dont think a polished aluminum targa top will look all that great. maybe a glass one or even body color but to me the polished look and even the sig. on the sides will look to hickish if you will. just my opinion of course.

I test drove a new 1986 Z28 red targa top. It was at Dan Young in Indpls. Dan Young also has one of the original 1967 pace cars, and a few 69's.

1980's detective series, cant think of the name (Smith and Smith) , but it was supposedly filmed around San Diego. They had a targa topped camaro.. I think it was an '83

Yep, there was a Simon and Simon Sport Coupe that was used for closeups on ebay months ago. It looked cool but it was well weathered and sitting in a j/y Their top was neat looking.

Here's one suggestion for the exhaust and the sub-frame connectors.

If you can get some 2X3 box tubing do this. You can cut the floorboards in a direct line about 2 1/8" wide from each subframe. Then you weld in the 2X3 box tubing, and then weld the floorpans back to these frame connectors. It works really well and you also do not loose as much ground clearance as you would with typical sub-frame connectors! Remember the shortest point between those two subframes is going to make the strongest connection.

On the exhaust, I noticed on my B4C that has dual cats, that the floorpan above them is actually different then those with only one cat. I was looking at running true dual exhaust with 2 cats and this is my idea and I have actually done the latter part of this idea. Seeing that you are cutting up the floor pans, go ahead and raise both the driver and passenger foot wells about 3-4" on each side. This will give you plenty of room for cats....that's if you want them....or maybe just 2" if you are worried about carpet bunching......

Seeing that most of us do not use the rear seats.....you can raise the rear foot wells about 4" or as high as you want them and put the mufflers at this location...and then with my favorite...turndowns or turnouts right before the rear tire.....
