turn signal

When I bought my car, my turn signal was broken off, just hanging there. I'm looking at replacing the whole thing...

The cruise as of now doesn't work,
The turn signals don't shut off after turning,
The bright lights don't turn on.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get a replacement?

when you say "broke", what way is it broke? is the lever itself broken off and you can't do anything, or is it broken inside where you can't use wipers, etc.? i know what you said on your post, just trying to clarify. if the lever is broken off, they're pretty easy to replace, depending on where it broke off at...

by the way, if you need a new lever assy, i have one. they are VERY easy to replace - take you about 5 minutes.

The actual lever broke - the plastic arm that is.

All thats holding it on there is a few wires. The only part of it still left on the steering column is this little metal nub with some splines/teeth on it. I can still use my blinkers, but I have to push the metal nub up and down.

There are several on eBay right now...

There may be a problem though, a new one would certainly fix, the looks and MAYBE the brights, But as far as the turn signal not kicking off after turn, there could be a couple of things causing that. There are 2 springs, one on each side of the cancel cam, that are used to pop the turn signal cam back into position. If these are missing or the cancel cam is installed incorrectly, your turn signal will stay on until moved manually. Also, if there person before you messed with it any, it is possible that a metal piece (that kind of acts like a leaf spring) comes out, it won't work either. That's what I'm trying to deal with right now.

as far as your metal nub is concerned, long as you have enough to put some vice grips on and pull it out, that should help. the little plastic cover around the lever pops right off, has a little connector right inside there to disconnect the multi-func lever. the lever has to be in the "off" position, though, as far as turn signals, whatever. then it pulls straight out - in your case, what's left of it. i don't know what the ones on e-bay are going for, but if you want my other one, lemme know. not looking to get much for it. lettering is a little worn, i just replaced it because of that, actually, cuz i'm trying to "refurbish" mine. other than that, it does work.

you can get a new cancel cam with springs from pep boys for $10. there's a generic one in the "HELP" parts section.

the electronics for cruise control for most late 80s/early 90s GM cars are compatible with ours. you can harvest parts pretty liberally.

my current stalk, including cruise, came off some other car, and is exactly the same with the exception of the cruise control plug (all i had to do was chop off the old plug and solder on the new style connector)
