Door Handle Spring??
Hey all,
Like many of these GM products, and as mentioned on these boards, my passenger door handle (outside) has a broken (actually missing) spring, and it does rattle.
What's the cure? Can you buy (or remove from a junker) the spring separately, and what's the installation deal?
Thanks!!
Dean

Dean - not to sure if you can buy just the spring, or get it out of another without breaking it for that matter. I would strongly suggest buying new though because they are dirt cheap and if it is really worn as it is, you can pretty much gaurantee that the swivel points have play (one of mine still had the spring in tact but wear at these points so it was still somewhat loose). I got nice new black ones for 9$ea. A nice tight, solid feel to them now.

I got mine from a company called Cross Canada (as I live in Ontario) but I have seen them with a lot of the popular american companies as well. Can't remember exactly where I saw them but a few good places to check out include:
-Classic Industries
-Year One
-Car Parts.com
good luck! oh and don't forget, that was 9$ CAN so it may be even cheaper your side of the border.
Trust me, you'll be glad you spent the 15 or 20 dollars every time you open or close the doors!

eddie: What does it take to install the new handles?
I'm having the exact same problem--both of my handles rattle, and it just makes the door feel "cheap" every time I have to open my door. If I'm picturing this correctly, wouldn't you have to remove the window to swap handles?
Also, I'm assuming that the necessary spring comes with the handle...
Thanks

Sancho - piece of cake to change them.....no window removal. Here are the steps:
- put the windows all the way up
-remove the interior door panel and peel back the vapor barrier
- reach it and pop the plastic rod retainer off the rod (at the handle) that goes down to the latch. On mine it popped off towards the inside of the door rather than away from you (you can see the little plastic retainer and how the rod attaches on the new handle)
- slide the rod out sideways
- remove the two speed nuts holding the handle in place (11mm combo wrench worked ideal for me)
- remove the handle and install the new one in reverse!
Test out the handle before putting the interior door panel back on to make sure that it is not rubbing (you may have to loosen the nuts and adjust it a bit.
The spring comes with the new handle.
good luck!
