Repainting the car
Heya everyone, I was thinking of repainting my car this summer. On everything except the front fenders it has the original stock paint. I want a nice, long lasting paint job. I was wondering, on the parts of the car that are still good (paint wise), how far do I have to go down before I can reuse the primer or even surface paint? I'm going over the parts that are currently primer (rear bumper and front fenders) with filler primer. Should I just go all the way down to bare metal with all of it, or can I reuse whats there?

I really don't think there's a way to "reuse" any of the old finish. I would say sand it, if it's in good shape you don't have to take it to bare metal, but just make sure it is smooth, and then primer over top of that and then paint.

quick is right. the best thing you can do is d/a sand it with 180 or 220 and get it nice and smooth but its still rough.
