troubleshooting a leak!
My drivers side carpet is quite wet. I lifted up the carpet and the undermatting is soaked! I did bodywork last fall (including welding in a new piece of metal from the door post to the clutch pedal - sealed everything afterwards). The floor in that area (beside the inner rocker) is wet. I can't figure out where this is coming from. It definitely can't be from underneath because the car hasn't been driven in wet weather yet since the bodywork and I can't see how it could possibly come from the door opening because it would have to get over the door sill lip.
I doo have a gap in the upper corner of the windshield (the rubber trim is not wide enough to cover the corner of the window opening completely) but I called a glass place today and he said it is for looks only the seal is underneath and that water would not be getting in there.
Any suggestions??? Firewall? Don't see how but I am stumped!

its probably comming from that part of the window. just get someone with a hose to shoot the window with the hose and see if its leaking from there. if not then look more twards the bottem of the door.

Hey Eddie..could be lots of things really. But most likely either the gap in the windshield, and alot of time one fo the grommet for wire etc. get loose and lets the water flow in. Water leaks can be a real pain to find. Good luck and keep patient, you'll find it.

yeah, I don't know. I'll try sealing that corner of the windshield cuz the shops said the windshield has to come out to change the trim to thicker stuff. Other than that.....well, keep my fingers crossed I guess!
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Any other ideas?
Cruzin Kaz, good to see a fellow Ontarian! WHere abouts you from? Have you ever heard of KWF?? It's a new club in the KW area that my brother and his fiance started up last year. I know it's off topic but you wouldn't happen to know of any good suppliers in Ontario would ya? It sure would make things cheaper when ordering!

Just remember that the water will settle in the lowest point of the car near the leak. If you really want to track it down one way is to pull up the carpet in the area of the suspected leak. Lay down a nice layer of baby powder on the floorboard. Drench her down with a hose and you'll find tracks in the baby powder. I do that at work when I'm having a hard time locating the source of a leak. At least it will get you in the general direction. Other than that crawl in there and have some one hose down the car and look for the leak. If you suspect a windsheild leaking take a spray bottle full of soapy water, spray down the outside of the window. Take an air gun hooked to a compressor and blow at the seams and look for bubbles. Anyways good luck!
