window guides?? help!

So here's the deal:

Not sure if they are called window guides or not but I am referring to the little metal brackets with the felt on them that bolt to the top of the door (2 per side). They sit up against the glass and align it / stop vibrations. I guess the felt (or whatever material it is) is really worn because they are now nasty marks on the window top to bottom. I called the dealer and they are $57 a piece!!! What the *** is up with that? Talkin' about dealer mark-up! And of course they said you can't just buy the material.

Does anyone know of places where you can get these aftermarket?? I figure if I get them form the wreckers they will be just as worn.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bite the bullet

The one on my passenger side window was broken when I got my car... After thinking about several options, i decided to just buy from the dealer... I think it's the best option, everything fits...

btw, are you referring to the outer piece, or the inside one (which attaches to the plastic upper door trim piece)??

thirdgen88, not sure if we are talking about the same thing. Are you are talking about the rubber strips? because the inner one attaches to the plastic upper door trim piece. These window guides (or anti vibration brackets??) are about 1.5 inches long, bend down about half an inch and at this point have the felt-like material attached to them (the material is maybe 1.5 inches wide). One is maybe 8 inches from the lock end of the door and the other about 8 inches from the hinge end of the door. The plastic trim covers over them.

I don't really feal like getting them from the dealer because 230$ for four tiny things like that is insane. I got the new clutch kit for less than that!

Oh, wow... That IS insane... I thought we were talking about the pieces that seal the window at the top of the door (the long ones that go the length of the door)...

$50 for those little pieces is a rip off...

yeah, that's what I mean, I just about choked when he said that. The onlything is though it is pointless to redo the window tint until that problem is solved otherwise the marks will get on the new tint too.

They must have quoted you the wrong thing. I just got four new ones and they were only $18 each. Still high, but better than having the windows get messed up. I will see if I can find the part number for you.

Ok, here is the part number: 20192983

It is the same for all four. They are called "Window Stabalizers". If you know anyone who works there or has a commerical account, they can get them for $12 each.

Hope this helps. Thomas

I got mine (doing the tint thing too) from a wrecking yard (u-pull-it) for about $5.00. If you find a car thats been wrecked & has the felt pieces in pretty good-ok condition > wash the felt pieces in mild dishsoap > put on towel to soakup h2o > Gently use a tooth brush to 'fluff'. Made the one's I got look brand new & they work great (just have to be sure to install them correctly).
Just a suggestion, worked for me

thanks 88aziroc for the part number. I'll have to double check with the dealer again. It was a little curious because the first dealer I called even said they were discontinued. But obviously not if you got them. It will be a bit more for me due to the exchange but there is no way 18 can turn into 57!!

However, when I was working on the car today, I took one off and noticed there is a fair chunk of felt on there with the part that doesn't touch the window in pretty decent shape. So I think I am going to first try rip it off and re-glue it (I will try the fluff theory...thans for the tip azcamaro). If that doesn't work than off to te dealer.
