Ram Air I functional hood installation...?

Has anyone done a "documented" installation of a Ram Air I hood that functioned properly? I only found one thread remotely related to this in a search, and would like to put the RAI hood on my '91 T/A (TPI). I have never talked to anyone running this hood as functional on a 3rd gen. Any ideas on where to look? I understand the hood and air box may need some cutting/fitting.

Thanks for your help!

I'm going to be using the RA I hood as well. Last I checked, Redraif told me she was going to test fit her ram-air box to Lt1guy's RA 1 hood when she had time. Haven't heard back from her yet.

However, as I understand it....the RA 1 hood has ducting that directs the air to the passenger side stock air intake location. So, in that sense the hood is funcitonal when bolted on.....just not Ram Air.

I'm interested to see how this turns out. If I'm gonna spend the money on the hood, I definitely want ram air. I may half to settle for the RA II.

Thanks

Its going to take a lot more than just bolting up the box; the ASCD RA 1 isn't really made to accept an airbox (its not even open behind the scoop; air is channeled out to holes at either side, which would be tough to make an efficient RA setup). It might be possible to cut a large section out of the bottom part of the hood to open this up, and mold in an area to accept the box, but honestly if you have TPI and want a RA 1 hood that is functional, I'd still buy the Suncoast hood. Its already made for Ram Air, they have a box that fits, and you'll have a LOT of hours invested in modifying one, even if you know what you're doing. My 87 TA, which has the ASCD RA1, is carbureted, so I have opened up the rear of the scoop (like a cowl induction). I'm going to make an aluminum pan around the aircleaner and seal it to the hood with foam (sort of like NASCAR), but unfortunately I cant do that until I do the engine work (not sure how tall the intake will be yet).
