To ALL with 4th gen door panels.......
Could you guys please post any 4th gen door panel swap pics? What all in the lower front corner has to be hacked up or modified? Also, I have PL, PW, and power mirrors (where would I put the power mirror switch?)
Thanks!

What didn't work right? Was it rubbing or hitting anywhere?
Does anyone have a Camaro with a 3rd gen dash and 4th gen door panels?
I'm still clueless about the power mirror switch?

I couldn't get it to fit right with the 3rd gen dash. The top front part of the door panel would hit the side of the dash pad and not allow you to close the door.
The 4th gen power mirror controls don't seem comaptible with our mirrors. I tried all kinds of combos with the wiring and couldn't get the mirrors to operate correctly. Driver mirror would go up and down while the pass one would go left and right.
You'd have to swap to 4th gen mirror motors or mount/hide your 3rd gen mirror control somewhere.

Well, yes it could but you're going to cut out a section of this plastic up here and then somehow cover the cut out section with a convex piece of new plastic, with the same grain without seams and without making it look like hammered dog ****.
I'm going to get a fiberglass dash pad, modify the ends to fit the door panels, then have it covered in synthetic leather as a way around all of that.
'Course, the friggin 'glass pad is some dough, but eh, whatever. Prior to laying out the cash for that I'll run around with my currently cut up dash pad and new door panels to make sure it's going to look good.

Actually my 1987 Trans-AM has the GTA style door panel. It's the molded kind that is inbetween the same old one we all dread and the 4th gen style. They are pretty nice really.
I just can't find any in good shape. I have also seen very few third gens that have them. So yeah kinda rare. It was part of the deluxe interior package from the dealer. It was like an extra $348.00 to upgrade from the standard. I've got it and a friend of mine who has a 1987 Formula Firebird 350 has it.

I have a 83 with a copmlete interior. The 93 firebird dash is already mounted waiting on Autometer Ultra-Lite Gauges. The Door panels I am still working on. There will be a console after I paint the roll cage and buy the carpet and put the paneling in. and of course get done with the wirign. I will post pics here in a few days if I can get a camera.

It's the cheap one on there. I only need front carpet which is $90. So I won't be out bad.

Do what I am going to do
I am right now constructing door panels that look exactly (well real darn close) like the 4th gen door panels, but fit into a thirdgen. I really like the look and functionality of the 4th gen door panels. GM did something very good there. If anyone is interested I may be able to work up a price for these, but with so many different years, not sure what changes would be needed.

I need new ones but I want to get those again. I don't want the regular ones found on every other thirdgen.

No pics yet, but I am essentially
Cutting the 4th gen door panels to get them to fit.
Cutting the plastic glueing it back on to get an idea of the dimensions, etc...
Work on a wiring harness
Than mapping the dimensions I will build a completely new door panel with the stock thirdgen mounts
Basically reverse engineer the panels, than build to spec. Honestly using vinyl, instead of leather, I should be able to get it done relatively cheap. More than 4th gen panels on ebay, but I'll have the look without hacking up my dash, etc...
