yeah and even if you read all those you will still notice something that is missing from everyone elses..... they keep saying stuff like "if the evo kit can do it so can i" and yeah like a year ago i thought about this for my formula and found euro works ltd. they replied that they'd sell me the doors and hinges for 2000. but that it wouldnt work. BUT! something that everyone fails to realize is that the evo2 kit is like almost 7 inches wider on either side!! wich shows how they can make their doors slide into "place" the window sits flush with it if the window was up. so put it down 1 inch and its fine then roll it up when the doors' down. so if you really wanna do this also...then you need to widen the body of the car. someone also mentioned this about the supercars are so wide etc. and thats why those doors are so easy to make go up and down. s***, a vallet friend of mine said they're so damned wide that its best to drive them around with the doors up and one leg out lol!!

sorry for the book......hopefully this helps???

In one of those posts, I found a link to a site that sells those actuators that they use on Monster Garage.
http://www.hotronicsproducts.com
You can get some that will lift 1000lb 12in. That would be more than enough lifting power for a door. If anyone takes Statics(or high level of math/physics), you would be able to calculate the amount of lift needed, and the placement of the actuator to get the best possible lifting power from it. Using that information, you could definately make some scissor doors. The first problem with the doors is that the windows are loose. It would need to be the enclosed windows like they have on almost every other car where the metal actualy goes around the window.. that would alow for easier sealing/ more strength. If you worked in a Machine shop and had lots of money, I'm sure this could be done pretty easily. That's just my idea in the whole process.. oh by the way.. the 1000lb actuators are about $500 a piece, so your talking about some $2000 scissor doors for a car. Good luck justifying that. Even though it would be pretty cool.. The best part about that is that it could be all automated so you can hit the power lock button, the doors would unlock, and then open.

I think this is a pretty doable project if you know what you are doing and have the skills/time for it.
Just my $.02 though.

I'm also interested in hearing why the car needs to be wider to be able to have scissor doors. If the hinge was a screw design, as the door was pushed up, it would cause it to go out at the same time. Like if you are turning a bolt. Turning the bolt will not only rotate it, but will push the ratchet/wrench away from the solid object(car). When the door is closed, it will bring it back towards the car.

just as everyone else i just cant afford to shell out 2000$ for some realy cool doors. As much as i look out at my car and imagine them there all done and start drool, i just dont have the budget for a project of this magnitude at the current time . but who knows what the futre will hold for that. thanks thought for all the idea i gota few realy good ones that would def help if i were to ever attack such a project.
