i almost lost the rearend today

i just bought an 86 Z28 last week, i knew there were a few holes in the floorpans and i told the guy that i was gonna buy sfc for it so the body wouldnt twist, i was drivin down the highway today and shifted down to 3rd an i heard a snap and a ping and it felt like the rearend was twisting back and forth , i got off the gas and it stragihtened out...i almost lost it. then when i start off in 1st the shifter goes up about 3 inches then back down when i get off it, so i take it easy and drive home, and saw that where the rear drivers side frame rail meets the floorpan it separated. and the control arm i think its called that connects to the rearend also connects to that frame rail, so when i hit the gas the rearend goes down and the driveshaft goes up, its pretty scary...i guess im gonna hafta sell it back under the lemon law

I thought the lemon law was just if you bought from a dealer?

Hmm... Reminds me of a rearend story....
::if you care, see the drivetrain section::

If I were you, I'd take them to small claims court, and see if you could at least get the money to fix it, w/o losing the car.

yup
pretty sure theres not much you could do since they did tell you that the floorboards were rusty. Typically its up to the buyer to have the car checked out as used cars from a private party are sold AS-IS. You could however try to sue them for trying to sell you a car thats unsafe to drive hehe

You should have had the car checked out by a mechanic. Than if anything went wrong with it you could blame the mechanic.

That's why it's called AS-IS. A mechanic inspection previous to purchase will only help if the mechanic gives it some 'certification' or 'gaurantee'. Your only chance is if they lied to you about it's condition and you find a 'nice' judge. Most judges will tell you 'no gaurantee' means no gaurantee--your mistake and you can't blame anyone else but yourself.
