T-Top question

I have an 87 IROC with a busted T-top. I need a replacement. Were their differences in them beside them being glass and lexan ? Would they all fit the same ?

From what people have told me, They will all fit, You just may need to adjust the holes up or down on the car.

The only thing that I know that would be different is wether it has the pin or hook style latching system. So you may need to grab the t'top hardware if the style is different from yours. I need to do this for my 82Z I have pin style latching and only have pass side t's, but there is a 84 Z with hook style. So I need to swap out the t'top hardware.

i actually think that some are different. i think that there was the version of the stock option t-tops and an aftermarket one. of which i believe the aftermarkets have a different dimention (shorter from front to back?) don't quote me on it but i think this is the case... but i would think this would be an obvious difference with a tape measure of a few inches.

from my personal experience from losing a lexan t-top with big pins.

i had a spare set of glass t-tops but they had the smaller pins..

anyway i got the glass one to fit just by moving the mounting around some and now it locks in place.

The only difference between normal t'top cars compared to aftermarket ones is the pillar width from the top of the windshield to the edge of the t's. A normal one should have the same width as the a pillar. While the aftermarket will be twice the size of the normal one. Heres my normal top. I wish I had a aftermarket top to compare with.

The aftermarket, was it the type that had the deep channels alongside the weather stripping ? Something where the weather stripping looked to be an inch thick or so ?

The aftermarket t-tops (C&C) have a different style of weatherstrip. The factory style uses a seal with square corners in by the center t-bar. The C&C seal has curved corners there. It does not seal at the outside edge of the glass, but sits a bit inward. To seal the outside edge, they use a felt type of seal that looks noticably added on to the roof.

There are also size differences between the two. I think www.sunroofdoctor.com or www.thesunroofdoctor.com has those listed.

So, if yours use pins, you'll just want to make sure you get either the C&C part, or the factory part, depending on which you have. I believe all hook types were factory.

For factory T-TOPs I believe the lexan and glass should be interchangeable. Also, I belive there are three different locking types of T-Tops: hooks, small pin, & large pin.

I think the hooks were found on early years of camaro ~82, the small pins are on ~87, and the larger pins came out on newer ~90-92.

Just make sure you know which locking type you have and make sure the new ones match. Then you should have no problems.

P.S. My 87 T-Top has the small pin locks.

My 84Z w/C&C t-tops.Notice they also open at the back,like a vent window.They are shorter 28in long,about 2in shorter than fisher(factory tops),these are locking w/a pin type latch.
