Used Fenders (Hawks)
I am looking to fix up my body. And you guessed it, the quarter panels need to be replaces (unheard of for a F body right?)
Anyways, I am thinking of going used through Hawks, but I just have a few questions.
-Has anyone used Hawks Thirdgenparts.com before?
-With limited money, is going for used fenders a smart idea?
-This product http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...il?v=1&pid=551 says it is 85-90. but then in the description it is 85-90. Is there a difference?
-Will 85-90 fenders fit on my 1983 Trans Am?
-Also, if you have ordered used from Hawks before. Are these mix and match colors for the used fenders, or are they primered?
Thank you very much for putting up with the newbie questions

I dont know the details about Hawks, but i heard that in some way they are related to thirdgenresource.com.
If they are, is steer far away, after a really bad experinece where they sent me a part off of a different car than the one asked for, it was CRAP, and the customer service SUCKED when i tried to talk to them about it.
But thats just mho.

hawk split from third gen resource. if you go to the after market vendor review board (where this post really belongs), you will see post after post praising hawk. i've never even ordered from him, but i would still say that i would order from there before any other place on the net

I do realize this post should go in the vendor review.
But my question about the fenders is what I really wanted answered.
Will the 85-90 fenders fit on my 1983 trans am?
Because if they will, then Hawks looks like the route I will take(thanks for the help guys).

I'll answer a few questions here:
82-84 TA fenders are dimensionally identical to 85-90 TA fenders; the hole for the vent is the same, the way they bolt up is the same, etc. The only differences are that 82-84 fender vents have a taller opening than the 85-90 pieces, since the longer opening would be partially obscured by the rocker ground effect on 85-90 cars. The early vent will fit in the late fender, and vice versa. The early vents look best on a car with no ground effects, regardless of year. Also, the 85-90 fenders are drilled for mounting the rocker ground effect. So...if you put an 85-90 fender on an 82-84 car, you're going to have some holes to fill. An 82-84 fender on an 85-90 TA will require you to drill holes.
Hawks sells used GM (and new also) fenders, as they come off the car...they're not painted or primed, but as with everything else he sells the condition is very good. I know TA fenders have gone up lately (from GM), so buying used is a very cost effective alternative. I'd buy used GM over new aftermarket anyday; aftermarket ones rarely fit right.
The relation of Hawks and TGR: Bruce Hawkins used to be partners with his cousin Stacey Fender and her husband Roy (good people BTW), in the early days of Third Gen Resource. It was called Fender Enterprises originally. They decided to go their seperate ways a couple years ago. I wouldn't heistate to do business with either one, but for the parts I don't get from Pull-A-Part I usually buy from Bruce. Its just more convenient for me, since I usually go there to get my parts to save on shipping (since lately I have been buying larger stuff...hood, rearend, etc), and Easley is a couple hours closer than Charlotte. Plus, Bruce has been a great guy to deal with. I have never had a problem with either one though.

Hi,
I would give Bruce a call personally and he will take care of your order and let you know what he has in stock at that time.I have done alot of business with Hawks in the past and they have been more than helpfull to deal with.
