Reverse Indiglo Gauge Install

I just ordered some reverse indiglo gauges for my '89 Formula today. I wanted to know if there are any tech write-ups on this. I tryed searching the forum but nothing came up.
Also, do you have to remove the needles for this? I have heard that this can mess up their configuration.
TIA

which one's did you actually buy? it all depends. i bought mine from procarparts.com and i had to remove the needles for the dual guages, one per guage to fit them on. they look good though.

BE CAREFUL!!!

Be *VERY* Careful installing guage faces on your F-Body.

I recently installed a set of white face guage covers from Duangedesign.com, and they look great, but I busted my speedometer needle.

Try to use a fork to pry off the needles, and use slow steady pressure to do it.

Having the guages out helps. I tried popping my needles in the car, and that is how I busted the speedometer needle.

Also, make sure to *MARK* where your guages are sitting at when you remove them.

I think my tach is 100 RPM off. Not much to worry about, but It would suck to think you have 1/4 of a tank of gas, and then run out of gas.

I was lucky enough to repair my speedometer needle with a tink speck of JBWeld. Might be off 5 mph, but that will keep me from getting a ticket. :-)

I got my gauges off of Ebay, but they are not the procarparts ones you usually see an ebay, they are sold by a differant company, but i dont know the name offhand. The look exactly the same as the procarparts ones in the picture.
As for the needles being off when you take them out, is there any way to fix this, and what should I do before I take them out to make sure I put them back in right. Also, should I disconnect all of the factory lights behind the gauges?

Just write down there the needle is on each guage. Like I said I think my tach *MIGHT* be 100 RPM off, but everything else is dead on. I purposefully set my fuel guage 1 1/16th of a tank lower than it read, just for safety's sake.

When you pull the guage needles off, have the guages out of the dash, and on a good solid workbench.

I used a fork and with steady gentle pressure I popped the needles off.

I tried popping the speedometer needle off while it was in the car, and busted the needle.

(New speedo = $200)

As for the bulbs.... now is the chance if you want to change the bulb color ( blue, red, green, etc...) Gelcaps, or colored bulbs will work fine. You could do the LED trick for some wicked cool lighting, but I found it was far too much of a pain than I wanted to deal with. (Colored bulbs took 30 seconds to switch install, and work with my dimmer. )

Good luck with it.

but since I have indiglo gauges the only factory bulb i will see is the ones lighting up the needle. And since the needle itself is orange, wont this make any colored bulb you put behind it look bad?

Are you replacing the entire gauge or just putting on adhesive covers?

Colored bulbs might make things funky, although the factory "clear" bulbs have somewhat of an "amber" tint to them.

I'd say install everything and see how it looks. My standard white face guages look good with blue tinted bulbs.

If you like how the guages look with the standard bulbs, then go for it... You are the one who has to look at them. :-)

I was just issuing a word of caution to those whop have to pull the needles to install guage covers. :-)

this is the best way to make sure that the gauges are accurate when you put the needles back on. before you take them off, start the car and let it warm up. after it's warmed up, let it sit at idle, and write down the location of the needles. when you're all ready to put the needles back on, let the car warm up again, and put them on while the car is running, once again at idle. i did this when i did my white faces on my camaro, and the gauges were perfect.
