Seatbelt buckles
Hey everyone, I have a '86 SC with a red interior. I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a company that makes aftermarket seatbelt buckles. I just need the two front seatbelt buckles (the part that bolts to the floor). Thanks.

I tried to get that recall done on mine, called the dealer, said they had no record of the recall and they forwarded me to the gm 800# and they said their records only go back to '88 so it is strictly up to the dealer if they want to do it anymore.
that's what i found out 2 weeks ago about the recall. Sounds like a bunch of b.s. to me

recalls have to be done by the dealers.....there liable if they dont. My dealer didnt give me any hassle at all they ust had to cheack old papaer files to get the recal info sheet. Maybe gm in the US is different but Canada does it. heres some infor on the seatbelt recal.

theres also lots of other sites out there that list some info.

Hey jcurrieirocz, I checked out the seatbelt recall and it says that they only replace the button in the seatbelt. Did they replace the whole buckle part from the floor up for you?

Man, I owe you big. The shields on both of my front seatbelts are cracked all to hell and it makes it hard to just clip in the belt. And my little brother's friend actually managed to blow apart the hard plastic casing part that is around the buckle mechanism. So this is awesome.

Man i don't know how you guys are getting this recall done. I spent 3 hours on the phone with gm this morning and what i found out was:
the recall only last ten years, since it was issued may 4th of 1990 it was only good until may 4th of 2000. It did cover all camaro's & firebirds from 1984-1990 approx. 1,500,000 of them. and gm doesn't even have any record of the recall # 90v10 which according to NHTSA is the recall # for it. But here's a copy of the recall if anyone wants the info.
this is directly off of the NHTSA website:
Report Date : April 23, 2003 at 01:41 PM
NHTSA Campaign ID number : 90V105000
Make : CHEVROLET Models : CAMARO Years: 1984-1990
FIREBIRD Years: 1984-1990
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 90V105000 Recall Date : MAY 04, 1990
Component: SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 1500000
Summary:
PLASTIC COMPONENTS OF SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES DO NOT CONTAIN AN ULTRA VIOLET STABILIZER, AND EXPOSURE TO DIRECT SUNLIGHT AND ELEVATED INTERIOR TEMPERATURES COULD WEAKEN THE PLASTIC COMPONENTS.
Consequence:
THIS COULD RESULT IN BREAKAGE OF PLASTIC COMPONENTS WHICHCOULD PREVENT BUCKLE FROM LATCHING AND PROTECTING OCCUPANT IN A SUDDEN STOP ORACCIDENT.
Remedy:
REPLACE OR REPAIR SEAT BELT BUCKLE.
Notes:
SYSTEM: SEAT BELT BUCKLE.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS.

I just called the 1-888 number for GM (vintage GM?) and they told me that the recall was still outstanding on my car and they gave me the campaign number 90043. They said to take it to a GM dealer and they would look at the buckles and decide if anything should be done. They also said it depends on if they can get parts. I'll keep you posted.

The 1-888 number I called is for Canada. Let me know if you are from Canada and I'll give you the number.

Nope, not in canada, so i guess that won't do me any good. Hey REDRAIF, do you have the actual 5 digit recall # on that paperwork? GM says their recall #'s are different then the NHTSA numbers, and they can't look them up by the NHTSA #'s
thanks

I'm trying to figure some of this recall business out myself. When I got my car the driver's seat belt buckle didn't work at all really (you could buckle it, but it wouldn't stay buckled, or it would stay buckled and the button was stuck down so you couldn't unbuckle it) For now I've got a buckle in it that I got off ebay, which works fine, but the button is discolored and the sheath that holds the buckle is breaking. I talked to the GM dealership and they told me something about that if the car hadn't been serviced at a GM dealership for a certain number of years that it wouldn't be in their records so they couldn't tell if the recall had been done or not. I didn't pursue this much farther at that point, but I'm thinking about it again, wondering if I should give it a shot and see if I can get NEW buckles and stuff. hmm.....keep posting on your progress, let us know if you guys (especially in the US) get anywhere with GM?
-Paul
P.S. Would the fact that my car is pretty modified (new 350 and a 6 speed, etc...) make them be able to refuse to do the recall on my car?
