4" raised ram air hood
Has anyone ever seen one for a 3rd gen firebird or even a camaro for that fact?
I've seen them for 4th gens.... I'm going to need a decent hood for my formula with my new 2 inch spacer and victor jr intake.
I found one for a 4th gen on an ebay auction.

I figure I'll probably call monday and let everyone know.
Here's the pics for a 4th gen if you haven't ever seen any:

Yeah, I love the ram air style but 2 inch more clearance isn't going to cut it.... My engine builder wants the victor jr, 2 inch spacer, and a 4 inch air filter on top of it all....

VFN Fiberglass will custom make u a hood like that for a 3rd gen. for aprox. $490, I've already asked them many moons ago LoL but I don't have that kind of money for a hood.

$490 for a custom one off hood seems pretty cheap too, you sure thats right?

yes, you heard me right...approx. $490. I e-mailed the guy before about one for my 85 t/a and he said: "We can custom make this particular hood for you. The price for a lift off would be $490.00." It should be about the same price for a Camaro hood.

Talked to VFN Fiberglass Frank quoted me at $605 for a Ws6 Ram air hood (4 inch clearance), looks like regular ram air but more of a hump for clearence and the underside would be really easy to rig up homemade ram air too for a carb. That's for the lift off version. It's the same design as the 4th gen one but custom mold'd to be on a 3rd gen firebird. Looks like the one on "Big Red" the 427 SBC with 200 hp shot that runs 9.30s. I'm hoping that the inlets will not look so out of proportion on a 3rd gen.
I would post a pic of the 4th gen one but I think VFN's website is offline right now.
Also in the process of seeing if he might consider cutting the price for a GP deal.

What's everyone think about the hood? I know 605 is really high for a lift off but I really like it... plus with the underside being the that way it would be really easy to slap a piece of sheet metal on it and make it functional.
