hood latch problem-need suggestions

Ok-so when I pull the latch on the hood release, it does not go up like usual when it is suppsed to release. I can get the hood open, but it is really a pain. I'm thinking the hood latch is just not releasing or is stuck from being so old, but is there a simple fix for this rather than running to a parts yard or buying a new one outright? Appreciate you alls input.--Chris

grease/oil it. and while you're doing this, have someone pulling the handle repeatedly so that all the moving parts get lubed. this will also solve the problem if it's hard to get it to latch properly going down
