Bombs Over Baghdad

Ok here is the deal. The hood of my bird looks like it got it by Patriot missiles like baghdad did the other night..The paint is just chipping every damn where. I take it to the car wash it just comes off. Well, here is what i thought i was gonna try to do. Buy some rattle can paint, sand the chipping spots with 400 grit to smooth the primer. Mask off the chipping areas and painting the base coat and then the clear coat. Well, the first spot I tried didnt turn out to bad the color was kinda dull but it looked decent. Well, i was sanding the other spots and the primer came off really easy and sanded down all the way to the metal (at this point im feeling pretty dumb, lol) I am no painter, No painting experience. The rest of the car is fine its just the damn hood and i cant afford to take it anywhere at this time. Are there any paint and body ppl out there that can tell me what supplies i can use and where to get some paint...cause i have a spray gun, screw the rattle can. I think im just gonna take the hood off the car and paint it. I prob should have just sanded it all back down to the original primer but the primer seems to come off to easy..either im using the wrong grit or sanding to hard..I tried another spot with another primer where i had sanded it back down to the metal. Well when i went to put the color paint on...It turned out to be a much brighter color than the other spot I had done..I was just seeking some help and was wondering if someone would give me some heads up!! Would be appreciated.

i'm no body expert, but i would say to just strip the hood and repaint the whole thing. if it's peeling like that, something is wrong with the paint job, and until you do it the right way, it's bound to do it again. i say do it right once, and never have to worry about it again.

The Patriot is a surface-to-air anti-missile missile. Baghdad was hit by Tomahawk cruise missiles, not Patriots.

Sweet another Arkansas member, where ya at?
Dont worry with the first time at painting, just practice on something first before you shoot your hood. Look at my car, that was my first time ever painting a car. It came out really well for a first timer.
