Shift Lever Indicator

Just repiared the shift indicatort on my daughter's 92 Chrysler and it was easy. So I'm thinking maybe the 85 "bird" is just as simple.... IS it? and how do I do it.?

There is no visible "indicator" in the gear "windows" when I shift from "P" to "D" etc. I've read other posts and it seems there is supposed to be a pointer attached directly to the shifter?

ok i got ya now, theres 2 pieces, the top plastic read PRNDOD21 and then under that its white with a piece painted orange, the top stays in place and the bottem moves when u move the shifter, i dont know of a way to repair it because it seems to me the orange has faded, i guess buy a used one from a junkyard, there usually about $10, dont try to take the part the read PRNDOD21 out, it is glued and u will not get it glued again...im basing my knowledge on my camaros, but firebird seem to be the same

a lot of the time that white "ribbon" will just get all nasty and dirty and just need to be cleaned. it'll turn black after a few years... also, you can put a new piece of red or orange on the indicator itself. i have a 91 with yellow "ribbon" and put a piece of red vinyl tape over the old marker - works like a champ...

So there is not a"pointer" that sticks out over the view field? I'll have to take a better look at it !
