Need for spraying silicon

Just wanted to say that everyone should not to forget the importance of taking care of those weatherstripes. I took of the teetops opened up the hatch and sprayed everything rubber on the car. A testament to the benefit of silicon spray---all the squeeks totally went away. A regular schedule is now on my calendar.

Dont remember the name also. Hes right any brand will do the trick. The statement on the can says to use it for protectorant and lubrication qualities. Believe it or not a friend of mine uses Mr. Sheen furniture polish. I chose the more automotive application and got this can from the automotive supplier. Dont use Armoral.

Ive used the silicone on my seals. The 1st time i did it, i used the whole can on just the t-tops, they just soaked it all up. it did seal pretty good after that.

Do they make this stuff in the paste form. At work we have something called silicon grease. Would that have the same effect? It is a food grade grease. I may try it on a small piece of rubber and find out. It would be very easy to apply and you could get a better coating.

Just be sure you don't use it straight from the can. The aerosol propellant is harmful to the rubber itself and will dry it out just about as much as the silicon lubes it up. Over time, the rubber can deteriorate quicker than if you'd just keep them clean and dry. If you do use silicon out of an aerosol can, spray it on a rag and wipe it onto the rubber seals instead.

Spray silicone isn't for getting rid of the squeaks, it's for conditioning the rubber seals so that they don't dry rot. Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you need to adjust your clips to stop T-top movement, or adjust the stops on your window travel to minimize rubbing... That's really the only way a T-top can "squeak"...

For the ultimate in weatherstrip care, go to your nearest BMW dealership parts counter and buy a tube of Gummi Pfledge.
It comes in a tube w/ a foam applicator on the end. It works awesome.
