has anyone painted thirdbrake light
I had painted my brake light to say iroc-z and was wondering if anyone else has done theirs.
mine is on a piece of plexi but i want to go ahead and paint on the lense.
what process should I go through to ensure no light shines through the white area, and my paint sticks and stays?

i've seen it done someone had a picture of a trans-am that had the third brake light not really painted to say trans-am but they had some sort of plate over the light that said trans-am and the light only lighted up the letters through the plate. it was pretty cool but i don't know where he got it. i wanted to get it.

that's the best way to do it just mask off what you want it to say when it lights up the have at it with some paint lol i still like the plate idea though it looked sweet.

Mine says "FORMULA". I got mailbox letter from Wal Mart to put on there, painted it black, pulled the letters off, then painted over it again with a few coats of Niteshade...you can't see it at all til I hit the brakes.

will this work for my camaro? I have it apart and it looks like the ridges are too deep to sand out. I think Im gonna use vinyl or maybe the mail box letters might still work, just take longer to do. Has anyone done on camaro?

read that tech artical it tells you that you take off the lens and sand off the little bump thingys and them put the letters on and then paint the color of the lens will be changed all except where you put the letters on when you take the letters off it will still be red where the letters are.

Im in the middle of doing the painting but i ran into one problem.
The GTA lens(red part) was really small only like 3/4'' thick, so i customised totally. I bought a piece of clear plexiglass, made it the exact same shape a nd size of the whole frame and put TRANS AM on it in 1" letters
MY problem:
The Plexiglass is clear and i need to make it red when i hit the brakes, any suggestions on trying to do this? I was thinking of red light bulbs but i dont know if they make them for it.
Let me know
Thanks

i used an aluminum plate that i cut the letters out of. then just bolted it over top of the lends that is there. i had to match drill holes to line up. so i could return it back to stock in seconds.
edit.... i did have to get longer screws

Do you know if they make the same lightbulbs in red, if they dont i might have to color the clear ones with a red marker or something. Its ghetto but it might work

SO ClOSE
Im real pissed off, I had the whole thing painted and took off all the letters and it looked perfect. when i went to clear coat it,it made my paint crackle and bubble up and softened the paint it really pissed me off now i have to repaint it. Im going to try using a different paint. I used stuff that was meant for plastic too.
Oh well i got all day to redo it

I did mine to say FORMULA also. I got all my stuff from walmart. I bought the letters in a pack there, then I went back to models and bought a can of grey primer and a can of clear coat then I bought a small little jar of blue paint.

what kind of clear coat are you using and how far away from the project are you holding the spary bottle a little bit will do you just fine don't glop on the clear coat that causes the cracking and bubbling affect that you have going lightly spray the paint on holding the can about 4 to 5 inches or more away from the project.

I painted the outside of the plexi glass, yes the letters turned out clear. I kept the same light bulbs i just went to autozone and got the things called "bulb Skins" or something like that and slid them over the clear ones now the bulbs shine red. I will take some pictures and post them tonight. It looks pretty good

heres a pic
It looks real good when the lights arent on but the main idea is for it to look good with the brake lights on
