4th Gen seatbelts?

Hello Gang,

I'm sure about now someone wants to smack me on the back of the head for asking this question but that damn search button is broke. If I understand it right 4th Gen seatbelts will bolt right into a third gen? If so what about the cover that is on the bottom by the door sill? It dosen't seem that the 4th gen ones have this cover. My seatbelts are in decsent shape but it seems you can find 4th gen belts pretty reasonable. If anyone has done this swap can ya post a pic?

Thanks all:rockon:

I.ve done the swap and it just bolts in. I just did everything the tech article told you to do. The only thing I changed was I got a door sill plate from an 82 or 83 thirdgen. Those cars have a similar seat belt design to the fourth gen. Using those sill plates makes the install look alot cleaner. I would post a pick, but I haven't purchased a camera yet.

...yeah I swapped front and rear belts on my 89 GTA. For the plastic cover on the base of the original front belts, I just drilled out the rivot holding the cover onto the belt mechanism. Then when I installed my 4th gen belts, I simply screwed the original cover to the 4th gen belt on the plastic piece at the bottom that gets bolted to the floor. Fit perfectly after and looks very clean. I think I had to enlarge the belt opening in my original cover just a bit to get proper fitment. The only thing I had to do that invloved any tweaking was bend the brace that the bottom of the belt where it bolts onto at the floor. For some reason the moulded plastic on the 4th gen belt just gave an incorrect angle coming up from the floor.
